Am I the only one that didn't know this? He's #14.

I feel like I knew that but forgot. He's kind of a dick anyway. And his dumb daughters barely raised a cent for their dumb kickstarter.
Yep, Mamet's a full-blown anti-marriage-equality Republican.
And he is friends with the Lupone. Which has nothing to do with anything but it is just weird.
See what happens when you're a closed minded bigot? You write SH*T like THE ANARCHIST.
I've always tried to divorce his work from his political views, which I think are all over the map, and oft-times nonsensical in the way that they change. One of my favorite playwrights, nonetheless.

I knew he had right-leanings but I had no idea. Why is this not publicized more? "Ender's Game" isn't even out yet, and the author of the source material novel, Orson Scott Card, has been vilified for being an anti-marriage Mormon and no one even really knows who HE is.

Because, to really prove you TRULY are enraged after 9/11, you have to go whole hog. I don't know how Patti continues to deal with his douchebaggery.

Just goes to show that even the intellectual can be as dumb as a bag of hammers.
Ender's Game is an extremely popular nove and critically acclaimed novel. It won the Nebula and Hugo awards. It's routinely placed at the top of All Time Sci-Fi book lists, and is often read in high schools. I think your characterization of Orson Scott Card's anonymity is a little misinformed.

Really, Mamet? Guess it makes sense in view of his work.
I thought Mamet's "conversion to conservatism" was fairly well known.

Yeah, Mamet has been pretty outspoken about his political views.
He's so ridiculously past his prime- as a writer, as an intellectual, as a cultural figure.
Though I assumed that one of his daughters, Willa, was a lesbian. Can't find too much online about her, though the one occasion I saw her she... certainly did look like a lesbian.

I don't know about that entirely, I thought "Race" was very good!

Ugh. Really? It had more stacked decks than a cruise ship at swabbing time.
^ I mean...that's just marvelous.
I feel like the last time he said anything relevant was OLEANNA. And even then...it was still woman-hating claptrap. But it was at least exciting woman-hating claptrap.
When someone you admire has politics you detest, it's a zen challenge.

I guess it depends on what aspect of the play we're talking about: as a social commentary, I wouldn't say it was anything special, but I was certainly entertained when I saw it. Spader, Grier, Washington, and Thomas did a great job with the material, which I thought was intriguing and exciting. I've also read the text after seeing the show, and it holds up as a cohesive piece in that medium, too.
Provocative? Not really. Insightful? Eh. Solid legal drama? Surely!
Race actually was a pretty good piece of theater. November, on the other hand was absolutely dreadful. Ridiculously over the top to the point of being just silly. The Anarchist requires no comment. So of recent work, IMO, 1 out of 3 which is a good average if you're with the Yankees. As a revered playwright, not so much.

Good for him and for all of them. EVERYONE should be allowed to have their OPINION and I applaud him. Truth be told, I agree with him. Have a great day ;---)

Truth be told, you're an asshole.
Who knew Mamet had an account here.....
I had to buy his book on acting when I got to drama school. I read a page and was all, 'Bitch, please.'
The acting technique he came up with is all stoicism.
You know he started The Atlantic Theater company. Well, his first class* started it based on his "practical aesthetics workshop" acting method which he hosted in Vermont every summer.
It's now one of the studios at Tisch.
