Posted: 9/30/14 at 11:57amGoodness gracious...so much Sturm and Drang with this show. Is it possible that Jeremy Jordan will still stay with the show? I imagine investors would insist on a name to draw in the crowds. Is Jeremy Jordan considered in that manner?

Posted: 9/30/14 at 12:27pmJordan is a fine actor and I'm sure is spectacular in the role. I must say though, I would prefer someone older to play him.

Which is a shame because he is terrific in the role. With the beard and grayed hair, he is convincing as 40.
If it is because they are going with Matthew Morrison, I think they a gonna be real surprised that he will not sell tickets. I can't think of anyone else other than Hugh Jackman who can sing AND sell tickets AND is remotely right for the role (ironically, I think he'd be very good in it).

Posted: 9/30/14 at 2:20pmI agree. I think Weinstein is in for a rude awakening when he learns how little difference it will make having Morrison's name above the title. That concept album may also work against them as well since it won't be a representation of what audiences are going to hear on stage.

Posted: 9/30/14 at 2:22pmWell let's just be fair and say that Jeremy Jordan's name isn't going to sell out a show, either.

Can I point out that Matthew Morrison had a ten year broadway career before Glee which included a Tony nomination and two drama desk award nominations. On paper he is quite qualified to have a leading man role in a musical like this. It's not like he would be stunt cast with no prior stage credibility or accomplishments.
He was attached to the part before Jordan was and even though workshops aren't presented to the public that doesn't make it any less of a platform for the creatives and producers to see Morrisons capability in the role nor diminishes the work he put into it.

^I don't think anyone is doubting Morrison's qualifications for the role.
However, neither he nor Jeremy Jordan are going to sell significant amounts of tickets.

Posted: 9/30/14 at 3:15pmThey said casting will be announced shortly, so we'll see. I only heard great things from Jeremy so i hope he stays in the show!! and he's learned everything about the show already so i don't see why they would get Morrison in the role when he's not gonna sell tickets anyway. I think the show sells itself honestly

The troubles with this show remind me of those shows that were in trouble out of town in the 60's. Back than, shows closed on the road regularly . Now there is to much at stake. Unfortunately critics (like the sharks they are) smell blood in the water. This has not got a chance in hell of succeeding with all this nonsense going on.The critics will have a field day with this.
I have no interest in it and had no intention of seeing it. Shows that got great reviews out of town came in and got ripped. This does not have that luxury .
Cue the Jaws theme.

Posted: 9/30/14 at 3:19pmThe last sentence seems to allude to it not being Jeremy's choice or something. I do think Matthew Morrison will sell more tickets since he was on a popular show for a few years, before that show was the worst show ever. Smash never had that. I was looking forward to seeing Jeremy do it, though. Bummer.

Posted: 9/30/14 at 3:27pmMr Roxy, and look what happened to Motown. It wasn't critically acclaimed at all, and its still going strong. There are MANY shows that the critics hate, but still last a long time on broadway. Even Wicked had mixed reviews. People seem to gravitate towards magical kid shows nowadays which is why i think it will do fine on Broadway, but we'll see i guess.

Posted: 9/30/14 at 3:28pmI wonder if Jeremy knew the whole time that he'd be only for the ART engagement

Posted: 9/30/14 at 3:32pmIF Jeremy was only there for the ART engagement..there hasn't been any official announcement yet about the cast on Broadway...this could all just be speculation.

Motown had a built in audience. Many kids know Peter Pan but have no interest in seeing its creator.
With all the turmoil surrounding this show, I stand by my original assessment.

What is the turmoil? Morrison was cast in the workshop, Jordan in the ART run and it is uncertain right now who ( including somebody else) will be in the broadway cast. These kind of casting deliberations happen all the time. Mountains out of molehills IMO.

No one is arguing that Morrison isn't qualified. You are talking to Broadway world posters, we ALL know of Morrison's backround before Glee. What people ARE saying is that Morrison isn't going to be the ticket boost Weinstein wants. Personally I don't think this show needs a known star. This show will sell itself.
Example:
Tourist #1: Oooh a tap dancing musical about Neverland and Peter Pan?? Take my money! Maybe Kathy Risby will be in it.

Maybe Cathy Rigby should play Barrie.
