Is this being put on by the Shady Pines Players??
Raisin in the Sun again? Why don't they just to Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf and get it over with.
Carroll is exquisite. Her Norma Desmond was sublime. I adore her.
They should be consistent with casting and hire Daniel Breaker to be Travis, his young son. He's closer to the age of his character than either of the other two.

I LOVE LOVE Diahann Carroll. Would see this just for her. Never had the chance to see her Nora Desmond.
I love her too ...
But I can't wait for her character to say "He finally come into his manhood today, didn’t he? Kind of like a rainbow after the rain…" and have someone from the audience call back (and considering past audiences for certain shows, they will talk back) "It's about time, he's sixty f**king years old!"

Does anybody remember the scene from Dynasty where she makes a smart ass remark about Alexis's caviar?
Oh, wow! I mentioned her by name when this was announced.
My "crystal balls" must be working.
So glad she'll be back on the boards again, and in such a great role.
When I saw you say her name the other day, I thought "If there's a God...." but really never thought it could happen. I feel like I've waited my whole life to see her on stage so this is kind of the "event of the season" for me now.
She's incredible on stage, and she knows how to dive into a role. (That's role, not roll.)
She is also not opposed to "de-glamorizing" for a good part. I have a feeling people will be shocked when they see her play Lena. And if anyone doubts she can do it, check out her Oscar-nominated performance as "Claudine."
She can go the distance, no question.
Oh, I know she can go the distance and there are sooooo few things I feel the need to actually pay a lot of money to see so I can sit up close but this is DEFINITELY one of them.
I don't blame you one bit.
This is a really great cast.
OMG, Jordan that Dynasty clip!! I now have a case of the hiccups because I was laughing so much.
Not to hijack, but yeah, why do "they" (and by they, I mean mostly black people) feel the need to talk back to the stage all the time? It's kind of amusing sometimes and it's nice to know their so engaged, but sometimes it gets really annoying.
RippedMan- it has to do with the "call and response" history and culture of black churches. Personally, I'm mixed and never understood (1) why a minister was "yelling" (that's what it seemed like as a kid) or (2) why people felt compelled to respond, either in church or elsewhere. So, I kind of did a bit of research on it when I had to study social psych. That's pretty much the only reason I could figure...
Jordan - thanks for the DYNASTY video! It cracked me up. "Retract this or I'll cram it down your throat!"
Can't wait for the revival!!!
This is gonna be F*CKING AMAZING!!!

Add me to the list of Diahann fans! Her Norma in "Sunset Blvd." was my all-time favorite. Also saw her here in Boston at the Shubert Theater in Dec. 1998 when she toured a concert of the Lerner and Loewe songbook. It was called "Almost Like Being in Love." I recall it being a very classy, elegant evening - made me appreciate her as an artist all the more.

There are a select group of American plays which are enduring, beloved classics.
Just as we see the dozen or so most popular operas with regularity, and just as the most beloved Shakespeare, Chekhov and Ibsen plays are performed frequently, why shouldn't we often see productions of what the theatre-going public sees as the great American plays: Streetcar, Raisin, Salesman, Virginia Woolf, Long Day's Journey, Angels in America, Glass Menagerie, The Odd Couple, The Little Foxes, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Our Town, The Crucible? Or of Gypsy, My Fair Lady, Fiddler, Guys and Dolls, Carousel, Oklahoma!, South Pacific, Anything Goes, Into the Woods, Sweeney, Cabaret and Chicago?
The last revival of Raisin was almost ten years ago. I hardly see this as being too soon.
