I like where this thread is going. Now please, someone explain to me how Cabaret and 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee are the same.

(Think about it! A con man enters a very straigh-laced, traditonal scenario. While the con man is, eventually, revealed to be a fraud, everyone quickly realizes that his outsider/non-traditional ways had a positive impact on the people.)

A motley crew of performers attempt to entertain the audience while under the increasing control of outside forces they cannot escape. The fourth wall is often broken, there are unfortunate erections, and the audience is made complicit in the mistreatment of several Jews.

Urinetown and Newsies have a lot of parallels.
An evil corporate overlord is oppressing a community of poor folks living in squalor, and when he cruelly raises the price of the basics they need to live, they rebel. The police, who are in the corporate overlord’s pocket, beat up the protestors at the end of Act I. The charismatic young leader of the resistance meets and falls for a young woman, who is later revealed to be the corporate overlord’s daughter, leading to tension and mistrust. The resistance leader is brought to meet the overlord, where the overlord tries to buy him off, but the resistance leader refuses. The resistance persists and eventually beats the corporate overlord to get the prices reduced.

This works almost too well.
I haven't seen either, but there are 2 versions of 'The Wild Party'. Not sure how similar they are but are based on the same source material.

Man v self
Man v man
Man v nature
So, if looking for it, you will easily find similarities."
There's another critical scheme that lists five instead of three. The additional ones are:
Man v society (which is seen as distinguishable from Man v Man)
Man v. supernatural
Or:
Man v. woman
Youth v. age
The latter two are often added in discussions of ANTIGONE, which then manages to incorporate all five.
Of course none of this challenges your basic point that there are only so many conflicts and repetition is inevitable.
