Sad. I've seen the show 7 times, and you know what? I don't regret it at all. It had a great run, and I've gotten about 10 of my non-theater loving friends to see it. All of them loved it. This show's given a lot of us some spectacular memories. This paragraph is really jumping all over the place, I'm a bit tired and incoherent this morning. Okay, so I'm incoherent all the time, but shh. Anyway that's pretty much the gist of what I'd like to say.

Best wishes and thank you to the cast and crew. I've seen the show three times and adored it.
I've never laughed so much at a show, especially during Ruprecht. I have many fond memories.

Nooo! I really thought it would stay longer. It was such a good show. I'm really happy that I got to see it.

I'm really bummed about this. I hoped to see it when I'm in town in November...

Well Beacon, someone who will remain anonymous told you to see it last time you were here...
Variety who reported DRS as a "hit" in their seasonsal summary back in June is now saying it did not recoup. Makes me wonder what other shows they listed as "hits" that were not. (Of course it is possible it did make it out of the red briefly before it staretd losing money.) With a weekly break-even of $600K it is tough for ANY show to make a profit even after a long run.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

oh, so sad when a lovely and valid contributation to the artform takes a dive.
ON THE BRIGHT SIDE . . .
1. Hopefully David Yazbek will right another one soon.
2. Now it will be that much sooner to realeased for high schools/community theatres.
3. If you are a Kander/Ebb fan as well, this gives Curtains great hopes of making to Broadway!
Again very sad, I love that show, but as a musical for which I have wavering respect for once said, always look on the bright side of life.
I had to talked to Jeffrey Lane about a month ago outside of DRS and he said that Yazbek and himself are trying out new ideas for a musical. It will be great if they do something together. They really worked well together.
Okay, I think I will be at the final performance of DRS! Who else is going?
Well of course I will be there. Have to say goodbye in style!
Just figured out that "666" is the sign of the Devil. A Dirty Rotten Guy?
When I visited New York, this was my 'filler' show for a spare evening and I had a great time. Saw the OBC (with the exception of Ms Gleason) and they were perfection. Wish I could have seen Pryce though - maybe he'll bring it over to London.
PS May we have your set please?
I knew it was only a matter of time. Its so sad to hear. It was an incredible show.
I remember saying back in June when the new cast was announced, that if they didn't increase ticket sales, the show would close by the end of the summer...guess I was right (lol)
I saw it on Broadway, and I plan to see it at least twice on tour. This is so sad...
I've said it before and I'll say it again: Richard Kind = Box Office Poison!!!
Uh, the Producers is still playing...
I'm going to the final performance as well...hope to run into you SirLir and All_For_Laura!

Richard Kind now has an excuse to run into his garden and chop up his rose bushes and orchard tree late one night repeatedly chanting "Box office POISON."

Were they booking for dates after September 3rd before they announced it was closing? I've just re-read the news and realised that it's closing on the 3rd of the 9th, not the 9th of the third! I thought it was closing on the ninth of March! Crap! I was planning to see it for the first time in December!
Sure Liir. If you call lots and lots of tears style, then I will be in style as well.
vm - I wondered about your post. However, I did think that you might be talking about either the road tour or (more likely?) the London production.
For what it's worth - A few months ago Greg told me about Jonathan and Norbert's leaving on the 16th. At that time he said that Jonathan was going to return to England to play Lawrence in the London production.
We all know how fast things can change in the theatre world, but it's possible that this still may be true. If it is, DON'T MISS IT! He's fantastic in it!
"Great responses in the thread. However, I do not feel it is fair to blame Keith and Brian for the show failing to survive. This show can survive just fine on the material. It just could not market itself to people well, especially after their Tony winner left. I try my best to promote the show but the first thing most people say when I tell them about the show is, "Dirty what?""
My thoughts exactly. It really isn't their fault. I don't know about Richard, haha.
Sad to hear the news but I think it's important we remember the great times we had seeing the show/listening to the cast recording... It really is too bad DRS couldn't get rave reviews- it seemed to me that the majority of people who were lucky enough to see it really loved it. I saw the saw with Norbert and Pryce (Joanna and Greg were both out) and it was one of my favorite nights at the theater. I think the show's material is strong enough to stand on its own and I can't wait to hear what Yazbeck does next. Good luck to everyone in the cast/crew on their future projects!
