So sad...at least it had a pretty long run! I'll be at the final performance.
I expect a detailed review, seeing as how I will be sulking in Florida, LOL.

I actually gasped when I saw that headline. I just got tickets to see Sweeney's last show and was hoping to see DRS for a matinee. Guess not.
I can't close my mouth. The shock of it all
This is definitely shocking, and sad. It's a great show. I'm glad I have tickets for this Saturday. At least I'll get the chance to see Brian d'Arcy James once.
Ohh...no worries about a detailed review of the last show.
This shows closing is SOOO wrong. And Spamalot conts.
Well i guess they weren't "given them what they want".
Still, it remains one of my personal favs and I will miss it and Norb and all the OBC. * wipes tear from eye and smiles tremulously*
Damn it!
I wanted to see both of those shows...even if I live in Germany & the chances of me getting back to New York anytime soon are slim to none.
sabrelady - Not only does Spamalot continue, IT OPENS IN LONDON! Muahahaha!
I had to say it.
This is truly depressing news, i am hoping and praying i can see this before it closes, (and i'm hoping tom hewitt stays on for the second leg of the tour when it hopefully comes to philly)

I'm so sad and angry this wonderful show is closing.
I've read Lucie is hoping to return on August 29.
"I've read Lucie is hoping to return on August 29."
I really hope that is true...would love to see her as Muriel!
That's too bad...c'mon Yazbeck, bring us one more!

wow. This is depressing. When I first saw this, like many others, I gasped really loudy and actually teared up. DRS is my favorite show on broadway and I am extremely upset that it is closing so early. Amazing casts, music, AND show! What a day September 3 will be...
I couldn't believe it when I read it, and it took me a minute to comprehend it. THis is extremely depressing. Anyone who hasn't seen the show should definately go now and catch it. I can't believe its closing in such a short time. I would think the announcement would be made now, but for a little bit later closing. It doesn't give people enough time to catch it.
I hate to be a pain, but my question wasn't answered. Does Dirty Rotten Scoundrels have student rush tickets? It's such a great show!

I can't help but feel completely angry at the producers for casting D'Arcy James and Carradine. They have absolutely no pull, except for maybe the hundred people who loved Carradine in Will Rogers Follies, and the likewise number for D'Arcy James fans. Yes, the original names were huge, but stunt casting would have been the only salvation for this amazing show, and they made a huge f***-up by casting two relatively boring names. Oh, New York producers. Great choices and bad ones come intertwined.
I'm definitely going to miss this show, though. I remember seeing the Broadway.com rehearsal video and thinking it sounded amazing (and, honestly, thinking, "What the hell kind of a song title is 'Great Big Stuff'?"). I'm seeing it next week at the Pantages, but until then, I'm going to definitely miss this show! At first I was overjoyed about September 3rd, because Sweeney was finally closing, but now I've tasted my own harsh, harsh medicine. Blah.
And 666... please, this isn't Sweeney.
This is truly sad. I just nearly fell off my chair when I saw the news. If there's any silver lining to this, it's that the show will continue to live on tour for a while. I wish the best of luck to the cast and crew.

I would guess the producers cast the biggest names that were willing to come in as replacements for such a struggling show (really major stars typically aren't interested in being a replacement). People like Usher and Reba MacIntyre are the exceptions.
Also remember, anyone with a "name" can make a LOT more money doing far less demanding work in tv, film, commercials, voiceovers etc. Stars willing to give up huge paychecks elsewhere to do 8 shows a week of singing and dancing for $20,000/week (or less) are the exception not the rule.
I'm sure they considered several dozen stars over the course of months and at the end of the day, Carradine and James were simply the best they could do.

I'm so sad right now...
I saw DRS for the first time over Memorial Day weekend, and absolutely LOVED it. I laughed basically the entire show.
What I'm really sad about was that my parents really wanted to see it, and were probably going to get tickets for Christmas break.
It had a great run though... and really, the lyrics to the finale fit this situation perfectly!

I enjoyed Brian d'Arcy James in it and I'm glad I finally saw it.
Carradine needed a little more oomph at the beginning of the show but he did a nice job on that final duet with d'Arcy James.
It's a surprise it closed. I thought they were at 70% recoupment but if they're up to 80 that's even better as they'll make it with the tour.
So is that two Broadway houses unexpectedly free? Now what shows do you think will move in?
DRS and Sweeney closing in the same day, Why do they always close two great shows on the same day? Renember how "Doubt" and "The light in the Piazza" closed in the same day.

Well, these two are closing when they are because the box office for most shows inevitably dips right after Labor Day weekend when most tourists have to go back to work/school.
