I will be in NYC in December. I already have tickets for The Color Purple and will have time to take in one more show. I was thinking of seeing DRS and now even more so since Sherie Rene Scott will be leaving in January. I don't really know much about this show at all. Should I consider this show or can someone recommend something else? Also, if I should buy tickets for DRS, what seats are good? I just searched for tickets. Are 4th row seats too close for this show given that some shows are best viewed from further back?
Here are some shows I have seen and loved (in no particular order). Rent, Aida, Wicked, Chicago, Ragtime, Lion King, Cabaret, Dreamgirls, 42nd Street, The Life, Phantom of the Opera and Miss Saigon.
Here are some shows I have seen and did not like at all. Cats, Urinetown and Beauty and the Beast.
All suggestions/recomendations are greatly appreciated!
see DRS! It is really good! and see it before jan. 8th casue that is wehn John leave and it;s not the same without him. And 4th row is not bad at all! I have sat front row twice and it was the best! Definately see DRS. have you seen the movie?
I HIGHLY reccomend DRS. It's amazing and fricken hilarious! Judging by waht you said you liked/disliked I think that you'd really enjoy it. I think that 4th row would be fine, but I'm a front mezz type of person myself, so I can't speak on your own opinion. But I REALLY hope you opt to see it!

You didn't like Urinetwon...at all?
DRS is very good.
Try for Spelling Bee, though...thats what I reccommend. It's hysterical, poignant, clever, and a definite must see.
If I were you, no doubt in my mind, I'd be looking at tickets for The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. Its incredible.
(You didnt like Urinetown!?!)
In any case, try for tickets for Spelling Bee. PM me with any questions, although I wont be able to answer them until tomorrow *nite, nite kiddies!*.

Aren't you the Bee shill?
JW.
DRS is better IMO! AAAND what he was asking about!
I agree with front mezzanine they have some staging on spinning disks that really looks great from there...
I must say I enjoyed spelling Bee too, maybe more...
And there is always Sweeney...Patty Lupone playing the tuba...priceless!
I highly recommend DRS, and I don't think there's a bad seat in the house. I've sat front row 3 times and the stage isn't too high and you see everything fine from there, to a more fuller view from the back orchestra, to twice in the rear mezz which still wasn't that far back that I felt too far from the action, and even on sides and in the box, where maybe I missed a thing or two but still felt views were great.
IMO, of the new shows, DRS has the all-around best combination of score and book, and as everyone said, you should NOT miss an oppertunity to see this amazing cast.
I'd go see DRS. I think 4th row would be fabulous, go for it! Norbert was the highlight, but I'd definitely see Sheri and John before they leave.
SEE THIS SHOW!!
Seriously, it's incredible...it never gets old. I've brought a bunch of my friends to see it and everyone has absolutely loved it. We're all in our late teens to early twenties. Every time I've been there the audience has been pretty diverse as far as age and gender goes...I really think ANYONE can enjoy this show!!!
I would see this show. It is fantastic and has one of the most underated actress in it in Joanna Gleason. She is fantastic in the show and so funny, but yet she never gets mentioned. I would see this show and I agree, see it before Janurary because it is so worth it. Though if its sold out, check Patti out. Plus I recommend the front mezz. I had tickets for those seats via TKTS and it was one the best days I have ever had at the theatre.
PS. Stand by the stage door, because usually John signs autographs.
I was completely underwhelmed by DRS. I would recommend Spamalot, Spelling Bee, Piazza, Hairspray or Movin' Out over DRS. It was sort of funny here and there, but I felt like everything was so forced all the time and there were so many inconsistencies in its style and direction that I wasn't sure what to make of it. It was my least favorite show last summer.
But then, I don't understand why you didn't like Urinetown, which I consider to be one of the most brilliant original musicals in the last 20-odd years.
Thanks for your suggestions everyone. I did consider Spelling Bee but there is no matinee the day I would be able to go. It sounds like DRS is a lot of fun and has a great cast. I just checked again for tickets and I could get 4th row center orchestra, 8th row side orchestra or 20th row center orcestra. What seats should I go for?

Light in the Piazza! Light in the Piazza!! Light in the Piazza!!!
or DRS!
Would you see Light in the Piazza instead of DRS?
I'd consider WIW. Watching Maria Friedman and Michael Ball together is going to be awesome. I saw the show in London (with Michael Crawford) and absolutely loved every single moment of it.
Hmm, 4th and 8th are both fine...I guess if it's your first time going 8th may be a bit better to sit further back and get a fuller view.

Me?
I haven't seen DRS yet, so I'd say DRS, which I'll be seeing Nov 12.
I've seen both DRS and Piazza, and I love Piazza. I think Piazza is the better show, but I did throughly enjoy DRS, and I guess you can't go wrong with seeing either. It really depends on what type of show you want to see.
I saw DRS about 15 rows back on the left and it was fine. I saw it for Ms. Gleason. It was an ok show but in hindsight I wish I had seen Piazza instead. I suggest Spelling Bee, which I did see, it is hysterical. I would also suggest Sweet Charity. Loved that show. But enjoy whatever you choose to see!
