>Also, news like this comes in threes...what else could possibly happen?
I would hardly say "C-List"...
Is this going to be one of those true curiosity flops like "Got To Go Disco" or "Rachel Lily Rosenbloom" that leaves jaw's dropped and potentially closes in previews? Do I need to order my ticket today?
^^^ Adam Pascal and Max Crum are as C-list as it gets. And though I've tried multiple times, I don't get Rachel York--I know everyone here loves her though. The rest of the cast is made up of solid working actors and it's always nice to see theatre actors get a chance. Faith Prince is always a treat. Hopefully this does well but the description makes it sound more like dinner theatre or a cruise show than something that could survive on Broadway.
I doubt this will do much in the way of business on Broadway, but I think, in the long run, the creators will have the last laugh. This show is extremely and easily producible and will probably be done by regional theatres for a long time.
I don't know anything about this show, but it looks like the kind of thing I might enjoy, if just to see it for its camp value. Plus, looking at the wikipedia page, I'm sold on the spelling of the name Marianne. Yes, you can all make fun of me for that.
I really loved the show and how they used the 70's pop/disco songs. Will be interesting to see what they do with this for Broadway. I seem to remember talk of it wanting to go to Broadway and after seeing it wiished it would just have a nice long run off-Broadway. It is a really fun show. JMO

A lot of the vitriol in the negative Dames at Sea reviews seemed to be largely based on the idea that "this shouldn't be on Broadway and you shouldn't be charging Broadway prices."
I can't imagine Disaster would experience any kinder reviews.
Disaster has the cover of a full cast of recognizable Broadway names, at the very least.
I can only take things with Seth R in small dosages. The endless self promotion that went on first time around in XM was unbearable. Guess I'll have to stick with John Tartaglia and Christine Pedi till this flops. I did see the show. FEH!
I'm baffled by this announcement. When I saw the show, I thought it's appeal was the ridiculousness that ensued with it's campy over-the-top story and tiny budget. For example, it was humorous that they would be acting out a massive disaster scene on a cruise liner by shaking their bodies and swaying from side to side. That was it. I don't know how that will play in such a big theatre, or will they be increasing their budget and making it more realistic (in which case, those jokes would be lost)?
I do agree that the point of the transfer is to get its name out there because it will be a cheap, fun show for community theatres to produce, but it the process, it may lose its charms.

With that cast, I definitely want to see this. But I'm not betting on a long run either.
Well, I'll see Adam Pascal in anything.
It is rather odd that it wasn't announced as a limited run.. Word on the street was that Motown would play the Nederlander as its 'last stop' of the tour in mid/late July. I could definitely support Disaster doing a comfortable 4-5 month engagement with this cast then wrapping up and calling it a night.

" This is such racist and DISGUSTING remark. Get a life!
"
WTF are you talking about?
I guess some people want to see racism everywhere, even when it isn't there.
This show was a waste of a evening in the city for me. I can't imagine why anyone would think it wise to take it any further.
I wanted to see if Off-Broadway for Mary Testa but that didn't happen. Now they've got Kerry Butler so I'm automatically in. I don't see this running more than a few months though so I should go sooner rather than later.
Well this news came out of nowhere. I agree with what some have said- why do niche shows keep booking the barn that is the Nederlander? Why not wait and try for the Helen Hayes?

Well. Some haters out there! The way I see it is that it got great reviews off-off and off. Also it isn't the standard juke-box-musical in that it doesn't follow one artist. It uses two ideas: the popular music and the popular films of the 70's. That kinda stops it getting precious and keeps the humour to the forefront. No need to worry about the sensitivities of a certain artist. Read those old reviews again. Don't forget the mass of audience are the tourists and if the balance is right I reckon it's the smash you didn't see coming.
Wait. I'm confused. Is Seth going to be IN the show? I assume he was in the original incarnation, but it would be his B'way acting debut, right? Interesting.

He had a very small part in the Roundabout revival of The Ritz a few years back as well.
I saw this Off-Broadway and only remember thinking it was cute enough but not particularly hilarious or thrilling. The reviews were very kind at the time, and it was a tough ticket to score, but that was when it was upstairs at the Triad with what...200 seats? Less? THIS is a show that might be workable at the Little Schubert. Big enough theater names in a nicely reviewed show... I just can't imagine how they'll fill the Nederlander...with people OR with the show.

Interesting how some posters are not imagining the complete re-design of this show for the bigger space and audience. I mean, they're obviously not going to transport the St Luke's production. Oh, and yeah, it said somewhere that Seth is in the show. I think he said in London something along the lines of "I wrote it so of course I'm in it".
However, he gave himself one crap line. You'll hear it if it's kept in.
I'm actually looking forward to this. It has a great cast ... with the exception of Seth. I think he's a great interviewer and musician, but having seen him in both "Torch Song Trilogy" and They're Playing Our Song" he is a lousy actor. In the three hour "Torch Song" he got maybe 4 laughs. It was one of the worst performances I've sat through.

Intrigued, but I have to admit I was a slight bit disappointed. I was kinda intrigued by the Nederlander being available during Rent's 20th anniversary year. One can dream, right?

Errrrr......no. What is interesting is how you started this thread with double back to back posts at 3 and 4 in the morning and now you are complaining about haters and people's lack of imagination while you shower this misguided transfer with praise.
Continue to shill away to your heart's content but we're not stupid. You're clearly involved in the show.
