As a pro shot I think there were a lot of smart camera choices and it flows pretty nicely. Sometimes though it’s trying a little too hard to be “not a stage production” and you wish the camera would let moments sit before cutting to the next angle.
The show itself still struggles with the film’s problem, after Elsa flees everything gets flat. Anna, Kristoph, and Elsa are just given so little to do. You don’t see Anna surprising herself or changing or growing or her and Kristoph really connecting. They have their cute “What Do You Know About Love?” Song, which is easily the best add, but then the show doesn’t build upon that. And Elsa is just so one note. It’s brood and feel bad over and over, it’s really tiring. “Monster” doesn’t land cause the song isn’t anything new from her. And Samantha is trying her best to get anything dynamic out of a role that is just not that interesting after “Let it Go”
Olaf is still fun but he takes more focus than the story developing these characters as do the “ensemble shows up onstage to do a song” songs
It’s really interesting to compare this to the Shrek musical where over the course of their road trip we keep seeing these characters grow and unpack who they are. This road trip just feels means to an end
And as for new songs, why not put a new song for Anna after Hans betrays her? There’s just so little here for these characters it’s very frustrating.
The film at least found little moments to show Anna braving the wilderness in a new way sometimes.
I think there’s a world where this could’ve been a great show, but they just didn’t mine enough

They had a song after Hans betrays Anna and locks her in that room called "True Love" but I think they cut it for London and the tour
what i found strange was what they tried to do with all the chorus singers/dancers...they certainly moved around a lot in unison and i thought that was really weird as it wasn't choreographed well...but i did enjoy the LET IT GO number with the lights and costume change...
I agree the show seems to be missing something in the last third. Elsa has her “Monster” song aka “Snow Good Deed” and then they might as well have ripped off “For Good” too but they don’t. Maybe “True Love” could have worked as a duet?

right. And “Monster” doesn’t work cause it doesn’t have any teeth. It doesn’t dare go beyond the safety net of Disney. It should be suicidal or more toxic or she debates getting violent. It’s just such a nothing burger song that ends in her surrender.
Or have her mourn losing her independence that she’s gained far away.

Riiiight....because who DOESN'T want to see a suicidal Disney princess!
Found this to be a lifeless snooze fest, just as it was in Denver. Odd they chose to film one of their visually less-interesting shows.
I couldn't get beyond about 15 or 20 minutes. Blech.

We watched the whole thing a couple nights ago. The camera work was rather dull and the show felt bloated. Laura Dawkes was a cute Anna. Samantha Barks was fine, I guess. In all, this felt largely forgettable.

Samantha Barks is given a character that has no dynamics. Elsa is just really boring. Her magic doesn’t even seem that compelling. Animation can make ice seem threatening. On stage it’s like a cool trick
