TANGLED was a masterpiece of mediocrity. I have no wish to see it adapted as a piece of musical theatre.

There are too many sequences that rely heavily on action to ever make it stage-able. Sure, some moments would be doable, and probably very magical, but it wouldn't work as a whole.
And while the story of Rapunzel is in the public domain, the characters in the film as well as it's plot complications and twists are owned by Disney...and the truth of the matter is, since all Disney really kept was "Girl in tower with long hair, witch owns her" and the tears at the ending, it was all the original invention of Disney (much like the talking sidekicks in Mermaid and Beauty, the carpet and Abu in Aladdin and the mice in Cinderella).

I would see it if Zachary Levi reprised his role as Flynn Rider.

"Disney, like most entertainment companies, does not accept unsolicited ideas. You would have to be a legitimate writer approaching them through an agent. But believe me, Disney Theatrical is very much aware of the movies in the Disney film catalogue."
That's why I love the internet so much.
Those producers, writers, directors, agents, actors, etc DO watch these fora, and posts like this will plant seeds in their heads that will grow out to ideas, if they like ot or not.
They read about it now, so the idea is born.

i have been dreaming about this... well the wigs mostly... there would be countless meters of hair everywhere at any point of time in the show... especially the opening number, which i will get into. there would be at least 2 wigs %60 fiber-optic... now the opening, there would be wigs draped all over the set, a guy off stage with bundles of hair so when the actress ran around endless hair would trail behind her... then of course wires wrapped in hair, wigs to lift people up the "tower". just SO MANY WIGS!!!!!!!!!! ive also been thinking about Anastasia on Broadway, mainly "Once Upon a December"... but thats beside the point...
I'd rather like to see them bring "Princess and the Frog" to Broadway before Tangled. The story, the songs, and the individuality of every character could really be something special if done right.
Since i first saw the movie i felt that it could be made into a musical- Especially Donna's 2 songs- especially Mother Knows Best (Reprise). everytime i hear it, i can't help but imagine her belting the hell out of it on stage- espcially the end notes! i only wish they allowed her to do so in the movie.

I agree that there are too many action sequences. I don't really know how Anastasia is going to handle those, either.
They did stage the full number of "I've Got A Dream" on the Disney Fantasy Cruise for a performance of their show "Wishes".
Here's that video, doesn't look that bad!

OMG! I loved TANGLED...and NO ONE BUT Donna Murphy should play the mother...MOTHER KNOWS BEST is a show stopper...i see a Tony award for Donna if/when she played this role on stage...and the idea of bringing to life the song I SEE THE LIGHT with all the possibilites the staging could entail makes me wish that this really could happen...add a few more tunes and you have a great show with two strong female leads...and with the chance to put some real muscle hunks onstage for the STABBINGTON BROTHERS as well as some of the other characters, not to mention MAXIMUS THE HORSE...the mind boggles...i also like the idea of Zachery Levi to repeat his role as well...
please Disney make this happen...(do you think anyone in creative for Disney reads this site?)
"do you think anyone in creative for Disney reads this site?"
Yes they do, but it's not really the "creatives" that determine what the company will do next. There is demand for a Junior version, but no plans for it to be a musical.
Unless Disney has a major hit with Frozen, I don't see any more of these "Fairytale" movies coming.

Well the Rapunzel's wig doesn't have to be long long... it could be to her feet or knees... But, the signature look of the character is those long long LONG locks of hair. This is hard movie is hard to do.... harder than Princess and The Frog, which would be a good show on B'way. Also... that cast list needs some fixing.
RAPUNZEL: Mandy Moore
Understudy(s) for Rapunzel: Haven Burton, Katharine McPhee
MOTHER GOTHEL: Donna Murphy
Understudy(s) for Gothel: Bebe Neuwirth, Sherie Rene Scott, Bernadette Peters
FLYNN RIDER: Gavin Creel
Understudy(s) for Flynn: Cheyenne Jackson
QUEEN: Sherie Rene Scott
KING: Brian D'Arcy James
Understudy(s) for King: Norbet Leo Butz
Pascal and Maximus would have to be played by puppetiers or actors who can control them.
Jennifer Damiano would be a perfect Rapunzel!

Yeah, I know that's just a wish list of sorts, but none of those people are going to accept understudy roles, except maybe Haven.
saw the movie for the first time recently and I agree it would be great onstage.
BUT
it may sound like a slight think but if you think about it, the hair. how on earth will that happen?
I would think that would be a MAJOR hurdle to overcome. Wigs arent cheap, can they even make synthetic hair that long? and all the ways she uses it in the film? to get that wig to stay on and not get literally tangled in the set and to manage it backstage. I think it is a nightmare waiting to happen.

I must say someone certainly looks the part of Rapunzel.
I know it would probably never happen, but I think she could do it.
Taylor Swift Poses As Rapunzel for Disney
This could be cute. Would definitely be a hot ticket for tourist families.
I also really love your casting ideas, especially Laura Bell Bundy and Idina Menzel. I was thinking maybe Richard H. Blake as Flynn?
Unless Disney has a major hit with Frozen, I don't see any more of these "Fairytale" movies coming.
I remember hearing the same thing about Princess and the Frog. Tangled took in more than twice as much as Princess and the Frog. I think Disney will keep doing what it does; making animated films out of a variety of subjects, including fairy tales.

I really don't think that Taylor Swift would have trouble singing Menken and Slater's music from the film. It really fits her like a glove like it did with Mandy Moore.
Disney should do a stage version of North Avenue Irregulars with LuPone, Peters, Stritch, Murphy, Cheno, and Liza.
^
I love that idea, but only with a score by Yazbek.

Taylor Swift is quiet pretty especially in that picture.

I think she'd have trouble with the sustained note at the end of "When Will My Life Begin (Reprise)."
