Posted: 6/23/06 at 1:39pmI was wondering if anyone knows if/how massage therapists are hired by theatres or companies for their actors. I am a bodyworker and wondered if anyone had any insight or knew if this even happens? Thanks. Feel free to private me on this as well. I assume (maybe wrongly) that producers provide such care for the their dancers and actors. Let me know.

Posted: 6/23/06 at 1:53pmI think Lion King has a full-time physical therapist. Tarzan would have to too if LK does. And now that I think of it Radio City must have some kind of crew for that Christmas show. I know some people that have done PT on some workshops.

Posted: 6/23/06 at 1:59pmHere in Denver, touring companies get an information package on Denver, if I am not mistaken. At the Theatre Company we have personally recommended people, such as massage therapists, to the actors from out of town. We did Gem of the Ocean this past season and the lead actress was in need of a massage Therapist (She was a younger woman playing a much older part and was stiff/sore after performances) and we found someone for her.

As the above poster said The Lion King definitley has a touring PT with them. They are not hired through Disney. Not sure exactly who they are hired through. They are not paid through Disney....
Sorry I can't help more. Maybe try to contact the PT on tour or in NYC.
