Believe it or not, you might be drawing a bigger weekly paycheck than Keira Knightley does starring in Therese Raquin.

And btw, that is one of BWW's more obnoxious headlines in my memory. Most theater people already know how much the nonprofit theaters pay, so it's completely unnecessary to word it that way.

i think she has enough money to last her whole life from the Pirate movies so she can do shows whenever she wants without worrying about her paycheck 

BTW, she was AMAZING in Begin Again as "The Girl"

The way the BWW piece is written, especially, makes it seem like it's so low. Uh, most actors Off Broadway get close to $500 per week which IS low, and nobody's writing about that.

Um....I gross more than that a week, and I'm not exactly highly paid.

 

And let's face it: nothing to feel bad about, what she makes on one film, is likely more than what ten of us make combined in a year.

I guess the point of the article was to point out that she could be making up to fifty times more than that if she had chosen to work elsewhere - 

 

If Knightley headlined a commercial Broadway show, she could make between $50,000 and $100,000 a week, perhaps even commanding a portion of the box office receipts. 

 

- but BWW really bungled their hijacking of the original Hollywood Reporter article.

I am going to start a food drive for Kiera.  The Hollywood Reporter article has suggested you can't feed a baby on $1300 a week.

That BW headline is so stupid. Yes, perhaps I make more on my single weekly paycheck for my single job than Kiera Knightley gets in a weekly paycheck for Therese Raquin. But she also has royalty checks, endorsement deals, and interest income on her millions of dollars so I'm pretty sure even if she had a week where she did absolutely nothing I would not make more than Kiera Knightley. She probably makes more money sleeping than I make at work.

And of course she wanted to do theater.

 

It was worth the pay cut for her to do work that she finds fulfilling.

 

Many actors work for scale (SAG, Equity, whatever) if it means they can do quality work that they enjoy.

The point of difference being that Ms. Knightley can afford to work for scale because she's already made millions upon millions of dollars...

If you're  a big name actor or actress doing non profit theatres, you're not doing it for the money but because you wanted to do the play for your career. Plus from Keira's POV, doing theatre eight times a week does mean she has a set schedule which she can spend time with her family then go off to do the show.
