Do you avoid Matinees?

I have always tried to avoid two show days.I assumed it would effect the quality of the actors performances and figured I would most likely not get to see the entire cast as some may call out for one reason or another. I don't know if there is any truth to this but I have gotten to be more informed about actors work ethics and such and how seriously they take it so I hope for the best but I still find myself hesitant to buy that matinee ticket. That is why I prefer Tuesdays Thursday and Fridays especially for a show like Wicked.

This is one of the most bizarre posts I've seen in a while.

That is why I prefer Tuesdays Thursday and Fridays especially for a show like Wicked.

Revision: I have always tried to avoid two show days. But I still find myself hesitant to buy that matinee ticket. That is why I prefer Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, especially for a show like Wicked.

I haven't experienced any problems with matinees.

So if I understand you don't like two show days because wicked days maybe not as good as Tuesdays and Thursdays and Wicked because the actors are missing at the two show days so I seriously be hesitant to go to two show days because in shows like Wicked the actors don't take the two show days as seriously because in Wicked you doubt their ethics especially for a show like Wicked.

Right?

Wicked not as good on matinees because there are daytime show and sometimes actors dont perform according to my new knowledge so its better to go on Tuesday and Thursday and maybe Friday but only if theyre not too tired but never go on Sunday since thats only a matinee and no perform on matinee I dont know if there is any truth to this but thats what I know.

I actually thought that watching Wicked matinees killed less brain cells than watching the evening shows.

Why are all these words in other languages?

Wicked is in only English, except other languages like the spells Elphaba casts. It makes cents but not on weekends. There are so many shows and ethics are bad.

I just had a 2 show day last weekend and they are just brutal. I usually try to prepare myself and choose what tricks I perform to accommodate how I am feeling. If I know I have to perform twice then I go for flashy for the Matinee and then go hard for the evening performance. The audience expects and deserves to see the same show everyone else is seeing. I don't avoid them cause I figure the performers would have more energy at the Matinee than they do at the evening show. Whenever I go to town and see a show I usually always try to get the Matinee if it's on a 2 show day.

WickedRentAwakening, I'm not sure I understand why your post got the sh*t kicked out of it. But in my experience, when the show isn't particularly taxing, matinees on two show days have been fine. They can be the most relaxed of the week, which can be a plus. And when they're the final performance of the week, matinees are often fantastic.

It depends on the show. Matinees on 2 show days tend to be an older crowd. Some of the worst crowds I have been in were matinees for Hair and Rock of Ages.

Shows that draw on and reflect the energy of the audience can be brought down half a step when the audience sucks.

This is not a hard and fast rule tho. The worst audience in that regard that I have ever been in was a Sunday evening performance of Chicago 6 weeks ago or so. You could just see the energy evaporate from the cast over the first act like air out of a balloon.

NEVER blame the audience. It's up to the cast to make it work and win them over.

1. What's wrong with seeing understudies? 2. They don't just call out because they feel like it. Just like any other job, they get a certain number of sick/personal days.

I remember chatting with some actors from the same show that talked about how much they loved the last show of the week (Sun night) because no matter how tired they actually were, they knew that they gave it everything they had and it was often the most energetic performance.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I actually tend to go to matinees more often, and a couple of times I've gone to both the matinee and the evening show within one day and I've never seen a difference in performance quality.

I like matinees. In my experience, the performers and the audience both seem more relaxed. That may just be good acting on the performers' parts, but I know it's true for me as an audience member.

Which is why "Green. 8pm." often shows up on a certain standby's Twitter feed on Tuesdays. And Thursdays. And Fridays. (As well as the occasional Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.)

Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

Drama, I'm Sorry but I disagree. I avoid matinees because there are too many blue hairs and it does change the audience energy level. Not to mention multiple cell phones ringing, the "What did he just say?", the ringing from the hearing aid they forgot to turn off, the "I don't like these seats Harvey, we are too close"...I could go on and on but MATINEES generally are not the crowd I am looking to see a show with...

EDIT: I was at Once matinee about a year ago. Enjoying the show, the older couple in back of me spew out this gem right near the end when it is very quiet and most of the audience is in tears (Piano given as gift)

BLue hair one: I don't get it?
Blue hair two: Yea, and she is not even that pretty.

Not what I want to hear at the emotional climax of a show.

Matinees suck.

BTW my BF is 70 so I am not being agist or anything I am speaking from experience. He hates matinees for the same reasons I do, to quote him, "Too many old people".
