"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

Today is a vintage Madonna kind of day.

Give it up, do as I say.

I cant imagine when you are 90 you really want to be futzing around on the street. Im exhausted so easily and Im 40. I can only imagine what goes into preserving yourself for stage when you are 90.

^ Not to mention after performing a huge role where you're on stage almost the whole time. I think it's awesome she would even have the stamina to occasionally sign.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

No one is criticizing Cicely, but the doorman. He allowed 20+people to wait and then after an hour said, when we finally ASKED, "oh, they all went out the front a while ago". That's just rude.

Tom and Vanessa have always been very kind and gracious at the stage door. I have seen both sign and take lots of pics with fans. I am seeing the show Saturday and hope to catch Tom and Vanessa at the stage door, but if not, not a. big deal.

While I dont defend the doorman, security probably wishes to keep the autograph seekers contained in one place until all the actors have safely left the building. It's not very kind, but it is practical.

@sheltiemom

I was there and you weren't Tom Wopat, walked out with guitar in hand and people asked for his signature and he kept walking. Two women even walked after him screaming "Tom! Tom," and he kept walking putting his hand up to waive. He might have been late for something or another I have no clue. I am in no way upset about him not signing, what I do take offense to is someone telling me what happened when I saw it with my own two eyes.

And @Bettyboy72 I highly doubt it would take them an hour and 30 minutes to walk out of the building safely? Even if it did he could have asked before when we were inquiring if the actors were to come out.

Ladyoftheowood-if an actor has guests (which is very possible) it can easily take them that long to get out of the building. Most well known film actors often have an entourage of people to visit with. It's how actors get to see each other.

"And @Bettyboy72 I highly doubt it would take them an hour and 30 minutes to walk out of the building safely?"

Someone I know who had a very intense costume/makeup situation in a show about a year ago took almost that long to come out because it took her quite some time to change and she always took a long shower after the show before she left. As any girl knows, taking makeup off + shower + reapplying street makeup and changing can take some time. You have no idea what people are doing backstage or who is visiting them or what have you, so thus you don't get to decide what an "appropriate" time is to take before leaving.

I have to say, last night the doorman was nice enough to let us all know that Cicely, Vanessa, and Cuba had all left via another exit. He seemed to tell us as soon as he was alerted, about 40 minutes or so after the show ended.

Also, not to be rude but the stage doorman and security do not work for the general public and owe you nothing in terms of explanations. They could ignore you if they so choose. Their job is to coordinate the comings and goings backstage not to update fans.

People who choose to wait do so of their own free will and at their own risk. If you have the penchant to get frustrated, ornery or indignant after waiting too long, then stage dooring is not for you.

I don't get ornery at all. I actually wait very patiently when stagedooring. I only do it for certain people anyway. That particular day I found out that Vanessa, whom was the reason for my seeing the show in the first place, was extremely tired and left almost directly after the show.

Like I said before, I don't expect them to come out if they don't feel obliged. I was actually very surprised that Academy Award Winning Actor Cuba Gooding Jr. came out at all. I planned on staying for maybe 30 minutes, but the doorman kept saying that Vanessa was still inside and she might be out. Then after an hour and a half of people asking he stated that "She was tired and left directly after the show." Which is it? She left after the show or she was still inside. I would not have wasted my time waiting there had he not given us false information.

*Side-note* Helen Williams was in attendance at this performance and she is one of the nicest women I have ever met. I asked her for a photograph and she seemed honored and shocked that I wanted one with her.

"Vanessa, whom was the reason for my seeing the show"

that is not the correct use of "whom." Vanessa is the subject of this sentence.

Hi everyone... just curious for any stage door updates on this show. I would love to get Cuba Gooding Jr. to sign mine, but have heard mixed things about what door he comes out. Thanks!

Someone must have met Cicely Tyson after a performance......even if it was through an alternate door. I can't imagine her saying no to signing an autograph.
