With LuPone bringing parts of the Evita score ("Rainbow High," "Buenos Aires,"etc) back after 30 years, I was curious if Elaine Paige sings anything from Evita--besides "Don't Cry For Me Argentina"--in her concerts. I would be interested to see how she sounds singing the score after all of these years.
So have any of you heard of her pulling out one of the "lesser known" songs at a show? Or even better is there a recording?
If she hasn't, why do you think so? For a role that Paige maintains that she enjoyed originating on stage, why wouldn't she sing more material from it?
Thanks. I'm not a huge Paige fan--something about her phrasing freaks me out--but I was curious if she ever resurrection something better than "Don't Cry..."
Seth Rudetsky had Nancy Opel (one of the Broadway Evas) sing a verse of "A New Argentina" on his Obessed show. I have been hoping that he tricks LuPone into doing it.
My problem with Paige is that she goes into her head voice for the higher notes. I just rather LuPone's power belting.
Is there any footage online of Lupone singing " A new Argentina" that's not from her Opening night and the tony awards? I have searched long and hard on youtube to find one of her regular performances when she got more comfortable into the run but strangely I can't seem to find anything..
I haven't found any recordings of LuPone other than the opening night, Tony performance, and the OBC. There is also a few final performance recordings, but none of "A New Argentina."
I would love some mid-run footage of LuPone. It would be nice to hear her once she felt better in the role.
