Spring Awakening was obviously recorded before opening on Broadway (as people have pointed out), but was released after the official opening. I believe it was about a week after, although they had a sampler disk available.

Mattbrain - I will find the exact verse (Jennifer's verse in "Just Another Day" from Arena) when I get home from work. I remember it had the charming rhyme of "crack" and "wack".

Oh yes, I remember that horrible verse. The worst part of it was the fact that the last note, on the word "crack," was a high note in a weird mixed placement for her, so she'd literally CRACK on the work "crack." Haha.

Yeah...something like
So I do my best to hold it all together
Just to keep my lovely family off my back
[I forget the line here...going from memory cause it's driving my nuts. haha!]
And pretend that they're not seriously wack.
[again, I forget...it could be the line about cause sometimes I think I'm dying]
But I'm really only trying not to crack.
Also, Jane Eyre was recorded before the show actually opened, wasn't it?
Yes, they wanted the release of the CD to coincide with the Broadway opening, if I remember correctly. It's a shame the show didn't catch on. I really loved it.
IIRC Elizabeth DeGrazia recorded the album when she was 8 months pregnant (and obviously did not perform opening night).

Oh I totally agree. I think the score is absolutely gorgeous.

Natalie's changed verse in "Just Another Day"...
It used to be:
So I do my best to make it all look easy
Just to keep my lovely family off my back
And I act like life is bright and life is breezy
And pretend that they're not seriously wack
And some days I think I'm dying
But I'm really only trying not to crack.
^But on the CD it's the way it is now in the show: "So it's times like these I wonder how I take it..." and so on ,right?
edit - Yes it is. I thought someone said it WASN'T changed and had to have a listen just now to make sure I wasn't going crazy, haha.

Yeah, they put her back in the studio to record her new verse before the recording was finished and ready to go. Someone asked what it used to be.

Yeah, that's the one thing that pisses me off about the Beauty and the Beast OBCR. There are quite a handful of lyric changes and orchestration changes. I was actually fortunate enough to come across the original London and Australian cast recordings, which are, as far as I believe, the only other English recordings of the frozen state of the show. Even still, the OBCR has the richest orchestrations overall.
