Please don't kill me if this has already been posted somewhere but I couldn't see it about. Here's the trailer...

That was great.
From the trailer, it doesn't look like Meryl matches Cherry's performance, but she does very well. Of course, it could just be the trailer.
I have faith in Philip Seymour Hoffman: he really, with the right performance, could be the giant-teddy-bear-guy, the guy you go to right away when things go badly. And... he does have the slight pedophile look, but that's an advantage, really.
Amy Adams... seems like a fly on the wall. As it should be: she really stands for the audience.
Love the new scenes they put in ("Oh look. You blew out my light.").
And praise Jesus that they don't have those overdone, really really goofy Bronx accents.
I miss the accents. They made the characters distinct, and not run of the mill.
But what else would I expect from a movie? Run of the mill.
I'm confused though, is the boy listening to ear phones in that one scene? They had those in 1964?
It probably takes place in 2008 now.
Makes it more accessible to the general brainless mainstream moviegoing public.

Someone on another site thought the headphones were for the transitor radio Sister Aloysius takes and starts listening to.
But it looks a lot more like an iPod to me.
But oh well. It doesn't really make much difference if the film takes place in 1964 or not (you miss the Vatican II references, but the church is always trying to draw people in).
Yes, headphones were around back then. They were expensive, but they were around. The movie is still obviously set int he 60s though.. you can tell from the costumes and other pieces of technology.
The trailer looks excellent. I can't wait.
I doubt this movie takes place now. Having gone to Catholic school since 6th grade, and being in a Catholic College, I have yet to see nuns that still dress like that. I'm sure some still do, but it's not the norm these days.
Meryl Streep sounds like she's in a gangster movie.
Kad, did you see the Broadway play?
I couldn't see the Broadway production but I saw the tour with Cherry Jones.
It's a wonderful play and the stage version was stunning, but what is it about this that has you so convinced that it's going to be awful, Foster?
It's the fact that every stage to screen adaptation of a play that I've seen has been watered down, stretched out, and diminished of all subtleties. What I see in this trailer is a clear representation of another one of those circumstances. It's just a shame that such a tight, beautiful work of art must be tarnished simply in the name of money.
Well, PROOF certainly wasn't that great.
And I didn't especially like the hammer-headed imagery from the DOUBT movie (the black and white crows, the light, etc.)
But who knows. Maybe the movie'll be great. It certainly looks pretty good from the trailer.
Doubt, as it is written for the stage, would not work as a film. Film allows the audience to see things that are only described, or things that couldn't happen at all on stage.
Seeing as how John Patrick Shanley not only adapted the play but is also directing, I have a lot of faith in this.
Ooh snap, that boi done be drinkin' summa dat holy wine!
Looks very good, form what can be judged form a trailer. I think Viola Davis will become a star (well maybe not a star but at least known) by this film. I can't wait to see the entire project. I am looking forward to seeing Amy Adams not playing a princess.
frost/nixon looks better
Meryl Streep Looks the part, but going from Donna Sheridan to a nun was a big transition.
jk No It looks like a decent portrayal but sadly I am not feeling any emotions from the actors. It is just a trailer though, so.... But I will see it either way
Cherry Jones inhabited Sister Aloysius.
All I see in that trailer is Meryl Streep in a nun costume.

If Meryl does the role the way Cherry did on stage, it will appear to be over the top on the big screen. Meryl brings more subtlety to the role.
I'm at least intrigued by how the property has been opened up for the medium of film. Whether it ultimately works as a movie remains to be seen - DOUBT is after all a 'parable' and is pretty simple in its structure. But this film at least looks handsomely produced. Amy Adams looks the best cast of the three.
I have to say...
I hated that trailer.
I mean, it all just looks sort of...blahh at this point.
I really hope this movie is better than this trailer.
Just judging from the trailer, it doesn't feel as tight as the play did. And, the clips don't show ANY warmth in Meryl Streep's peformance. I liked that Cherry Jones was a warm, loving nun who was also willing to bust some balls to get what she wanted. It was fascinating to watch. Meryl seems almost horrifying.
