Sounds like JonDouglas got it right. Wannabe is upset at something, and the trailer of "Doubt" is getting the brunt of that anger.

Honest to God, people just open their mouths and put their big, fat, snobby, superior, clueless feet in them.
Give me your opinion, fine. Disagree with mine. That's fine too.
But don't start "teaching" me about the art of film acting vs. stage acting, when you have no idea who I am, or what my background is.
There now... do tell me once again... they shoot films with a camera, right? And there's a microphone on a stick somewhere, or a wire maybe to pick up the sound? I think that's how it works. And theatre? What's that?
Best12........I LOVE YOU! Thanks for that reply.
It's one thing to post opinions, have discussions, agree to disagree, that kind of thing. Not even an issue. But, when people start thinking that they know everything, when they clearly don't, that's where the problem starts.

I love how Roscoe thinks this is Shanley's first film as director.
Wannabe is upset at something, and the trailer of "Doubt" is getting the brunt of that anger. Sort of like when Roscoe posts on how awful the film version of "Chicago" is.
That same level of sheer stupidy.
Hmm.
nealb1---I love you too! But you have to admit that you just contradicted yourself, big-time.
Thankfully, this is no Joe vs. the Volcano, for the worriers.
Regarding the score, the print I saw still had the Philip Glass score...which sounded like a Philip Glass score.
And for the Streep doubters, the trailer really doesn't give you all of the colors of her performance. She's fearsome in the early scenes, for sure, and she's caustic with some of Aloysius's sharp barbs, but there is vulnerability, confusion and compassion in some of the scenes that are not a part of the trailer, particularly opposite Viola Davis, and then in a very surprising moment in the stand-off with Father Flynn.
Just judging from the trailer, I really do think that Meryl is playing her lines for comedy, has no warmth, and has no prescence. My eyes aren't drawn to her the second she appears on screen.
Viola Davis seems incredible, and I think she really could have the best performance in the film.
Overall I am very excited for the film, and I'm really hoping that Meryl's performance has more depth than what the trailer shows. I can't wait to see this film, and will be seeing it as soon as it comes out.

You go back and read all of WANNABEAFOSTER'S postings and they are bitchy, queeny, ignorant and he's very uneducated. Interesting how he WANTS 2 BE someone else? That says alot right there.
I did reread his posts, and they're strongly-worded and largely negative, but he compares them to what he's "missing" from the stage show.
That's his opinion. And we don't have to agree with it.
Your comments are personal attacks though, jondouglas. "Bitchy, queeny, ignorant and uneducated."
What's your point in attacking him? Disagree with him all you want by saying how you feel about the subject in question, but you only lessen your own opinions if you put others down in the process.
You're not making your point, you're weakening it.
EDIT: But that's just my opinion on "opinions." Feel free to disagree with it.
"Meryl Streep has nothing on Donna Murphy."
Lol, I read that Streep is one of Donna Murphy's favorite actresses.
Add me to the list of those who can't wait for the film. I love the stage play but I'm willing to take this as a new property.
Meryl Streep looks fierce, I love her looks throughout the trailer. I think the hard part will be for her not to draw comparisons with her role in THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA. Needless to say, I think she'll do wonders with the role. We'll see though.
I can't wait to see Viola Davis' scene (or scenes), she looks perfect in the trailer.
This is the movie I'm the most excited about this fall.

WBaFoster. Get the **** over your issues politically with the film industry, because the fact that you would let that cloud your judgment and give you preconceived notions about what you're going to think of a film/trailer is just like critics who go to shows like Legally Blonde or something touristy and already have the review written regardless of what they're going to feel when they actually see it. It may be that you simply don't enjoy the medium as much but it is, has been, and will continue to be just as legitimate as live theatre in its art, regardless of the crap like White Chicks that gets put on screen. If it helps, compare it to what is happening to Broadway. We're getting more crap that the average-minded person knows and will love before they even see the show, but we're still getting our Grey Gardens or Adding Machine (OK Adding Machine was off broadway but it was too ****ing awesome to not mention).
The point is, don't be such a meshuggana.
I too thought the trailer was dull. but I'm not ready to write-off the film based only on the trailer. I also agree with the poster who suggested that Frost/Nixon would be the better stage to screen translation.
Yes, the trailer was very dull to me and for some reason Meryl reminds me of Miranda in The Devil Wears Prada, only in a nun's outfit. I noticed a lot of her same gestures.
I really do hope this is a good film, but do have to agree FROST/NIXON looks better.
I think the trailer is quite good. I am very impressed with Hoffman. When he was cast, I had my uncertainties, but after this I feel that he was a great choice for the role.
As far as Streep goes, I think she takes a different take on the character than Jone did in her portrayl. Many people discussing this have only seen Jones' performance and are comparing it exclusively to that. I was able to see a regional production of the show in December, where Ann Dowd (upcoming in The Seagull, probably known for 'Shiloh' more than anything) gave an amazing performance of somewhere between Jones and Streep. The character can be played in that manner and be just as, or even more effective.
I disagree that Streep's looks in the trailer are reminiscent to the ones she used in PRADA. Her looks in PRADA reeked of arrogance and an obnoxious sense of empowerment, her looks in the trailer seem authoritative but not in an arrogant way. I particularly love that look she gives to Amy Adams when she says something to the effect of "so it's finally happened." Sorry to focus so much on her looks but I think she epitomizes everything that the song "With One Look" is about which is why she would be an ideal Norma Desmond in the SUNSET BLVD. movie... but I digress.
I honestly cannot stop watching the trailer.
And I'm the angry one?
If someone wants to address my posts without personal attacks, name calling, and swearing, go right ahead.
Otherwise, this is like a middle school playground.
Personal attacks, name calling, and swearing -- even when censored out -- are against the rules of this board.
The only reason I can come up with as to why it's so difficult for some people to have a discussion without bringing out the personal attacks is that they don't have the vocabulary with which to appropriately express their opinion.

Thank you for you reply, Smaxie. What you said about streep's portrayal of Sister Aloysius has kept my anticipation for it soaring higher and higher. I believe she will give a very complex, multi-layered and even legendary performance with this role.
You mentioned the surprising moment between her and Hoffman in the final stand-off scene. Is this streep's own creation? Is the effect very good?
And I just wanna know a little bit about streep's final rendition of the last line " I have doubts, I have such doubts". I think this is very crucial to bring out the essence of the whole play/film. What is the effect of streep's rendering this short scene before the end credit rolls out?
I can't wait to see this!
I was actually surprised by the clips of Hoffman in the trailer. He looks like a good fit....just ambiguous enough. I unfortunately didn't see Cherry Jones and Brian F. O'Byrne in their roles, but I did see Eileen Atkins and Ron Eldard, which was a problem. Eldard had no ambiguity, he was so fresh-faced and likable the whole story became about an angry nun with a vendetta. There was no "doubt" whatsoever.
HA! What a bitchy, bitchy bitchfest this thread is! It's a flippin' trailer, for gobs sake!
I think it looks great, as do each of the actors, including Hoffman who I had by doubts about....ooh, I made a pun!
Oscar noms all around for the four leads, with Davis and Streep winning...just a prediction.
