Is it true that Tommy Tune's Dr. Dolittle tour is going to transfer to the Palace to replace Lestat? I heard that the tour rehearsed in the theater with the intention of returning there for a holiday run.
I saw this show in Providence, and I hated it...okay I guess its good for kids...but I still go to Disney on Ice, and their shows are way much better that Dr. Doolittle!!!
Can't imagine it trying to make it on B'way. The show has gotten lackluster reviews on the road and isn't selling very well.
But what the heck do I know? Stranger things have happend!

If the Palace is smart they won't take them. The Palace hasn't has a really good show for a while has it?

How about putting A Christmas Carol in for a holiday run? Or Grinch?
What about "Irving Berlin's White Christmas" instead?? Although, I don't know how big the Palace is...so it might be too small a show for that theater.

Yeah, but Tommy Tune's name alone could sell a limited holiday run for the Palace, even if critics do hate the show. Critics never like children's shows.

Christmas Carol on Broadway was well done. It might make allot of money for Broadway since people loved the show in the past.

It wouldn't be successful for a commerical run but a limited engagement could work. There's a BWW Preview of it on the show preview page. To me, it looks rather boring, but I'd go see it. I think it could work for a holiday run. It's a family show, and I'm sure it would sell well over the holidays. Plus, if the next show at the Palace isn't opening until like spring '07, whynot throwing something in there for a few weeks.
"Critics never like children's shows"? What about The Lion King? Also A Year With Frog and Toad was loved by critics, although it failed to find an audience.

Frog and Toad found an audience. It just wasn't a big enough Broadway audience. I'm sorry but Leslie Bricusse has written like 5 good songs. His shows generally are crap. This one is no exception.

White Christmas should go there, I saw that the same week as I saw Drowsy Chaperone, and I would have loved Drowsy 100 times more had I not seen White Christmas the same week, it was that good.
I could not agree more with you neddy...now..how big is the palace?
Let's clear this up. Dr. Dolittle is a bad show. The tour is doing poorly, both Boston and Atlanta cancelled and it will be ending several months early. The original tour had hoped to come to Broadway, and very early in the Tommy Tune version there was talk about getting it there, but in it's current state, there's just no way. And Tommy Tune did several interviews stating he had no intentions of the show coming to Broadway.
It is however true that Dolittle rehearsed at the Palace this winter. The reason for that is that it is being produced by the Nederlanders, who found themselves with an empty theater because Lestat was held up in San Fransisco. They felt it would be cost saving to not only rehearse there, but set up make-shift costume and puppet shops there, rather than having to rent several large spaces for over a month. And that's the only connection.

It was never scheduled for Boston. If it was, it was cancelled when the tour folded up shop back when Tom Hewitt played the title role. The show was retooled and then restarted. Many cities replaced it on the schedule when it closed, with no openings when it restarted.
The Tommy Tune tour was tentatively scheduled to play in Boston in August.

I WANT TO SEE THIS SHOW SOOO BAD!!!!! I know that sounds weird but it looks good to me and....COME ON!!!! TOMMY TUNE!!!!!!!
The puppets look cool! I`ll have to check out that vid on here again to talk about the score! I agree with NYCtheatergoer Tommy Tune`s name alone will sell tickets!

I don't know why the Nederlanders thought this would be a good idea. I just don't think this show would sell to today's audiences unless the upped the spectacle factor with really amazing puppets or some kind of gimmick.
If I an not mistaken, I read somewhere on here that MAME is was thinking about the PALACE, if the reviews are good in D.C.!

Why is the Palace such hot property?
Because it's the Palace! If it was good enough for Judy...

Why didn't they just bring the original show that played at the Palladium in London (for a couple of years) over? I have the CD and it sounds/appears much better than what was dished up for America before or after Tune.
