She'll get a Tony nomination, don't worry.

FAITH HEALER - happy to see Cherry on the list, though suprised neither guy got a nod, or anything else for it...if you haven't yet - go see this play! brilliant performances
SWEENEY - as much a I love Mano and Benj, after seeing the show for the second time last week I asked my wife to guess which actor I'd single out for a supporting role nod, and she couldn't believe I picked Alexander, strange to see my pick nominated.
GREY GARDENS & DROWSY CHAPERONE - hands down best new broadway and off b'way shows, should be fun to watch their showdown at these awards. As long as Christine wins Best Actress and Chaperone wins Best Book, I'll be happy.
Good Surpise: Lyrics for I Love You Because. A cute show and a good category to give it a nod in.
Bad Surpise: I love CC, but that Lestat got even one nomination is not right, especially over all the Sweeney women.
anyway I'm sure more will jump out at me later, but the DD noms are always a fun tune up to get ready to pounce on the Tony noms.

I'm glad Wedding Singer wasn't snubbed, but now Color Purple was. Ugh, it seems like my fav. shows of the season just can't win out. However, I have no doubt that Color Purple will get some Tony noms. LaChanze is amazing. I'm so surprised they either over lookd her or forgot about her. I guess the show did open a while back. At least Tarzan didn't get any.
How did Faither Healter get nods? Is it even open yet? How do they give awards to something in previews?
I can understand, not agree, but understand if RABBIT HOLE is not soebodys cup of tea as far as theatre is concerned. But to compeletly snub that set, which was probably the singular best set for any Bway play I have ever seen.
Not to mention the fantastic performances by TYNE DALY & CYNTHIA NIXON! If they don't both get Tony nods, something fishy is goin' on.
And while I'm still on the role...THE COLOR PURPLE! was f***in Robbed all the way around as well. Poor Donald Byrds fantatsic choreogprahy in CP is over looked for Jersey Boys? WHAT CHOREOGRAHY? Step-touch? Good Lord!
Um,THE WEDDING SINGER?

Wedding Singer also isn't open yet. Or Caine Mutiny or Shining City. This happens EVERY year. Nominators are invited to early previews and make their choices based on that.
Although WIW didn't get any recognition and it was my personal pick, I am very glad Nancy Anderson got recognized. It's about time for Nancy to get some awards!
I just wish they gave some damn award for the hottest muscleboy in Florida...
The Wedding Singer stunk and only deserved acting noms. The Color Purple was robbed all around.

Congratulations to all the posters who identify performers with both first and last names. The ones who don't are usually the smae posters that use "amazing" far too often

The Color Purple really deserved some nominations. It is an amazing show. I am so mad that is was snubbed of nominations!!!!!!
The complete dismissal of both The Color Purple and Rabbit Hole is shocking to me. Is TCP really worse than The Wedding Singer in 8 different categories? Regardless of what you think of Rabbit Hole's script, I also don't understand how Cynthia Nixon and its sets are missing out. In the past, the Tony nominators have sometimes tried to make some kind of statement by refusing to nominate certain shows (eg, the complete snubbing of jukebox musicals last year). Do the Drama Desk folks have a history of making similar statements?
The lack of Mano is disheartening.

I wondered this as well. That maybe their statement is "Go away, Oprah!"
I am so happy for my Jersey Boys. They were phenomenal. I still think Sutton's role should be featured, she was good, but Beth Leavel was better. At least they won't be going head to head now.
I am so happy SWIWS got so many nominations. It was one of the my favorite shows.
I am kind of shocked that The Color Purple got no noms.

I'm also shocked by the lack of Rabbit Hole nominations, especially for Cynthia Nixon and set design. I'm very surprised Mano didn't get a nomination as well.
Very happy for SWIWS though. Pretty much every main category. Hopefully it'll win some.

Posters here seem to be shocked that there could be people out there who have different taste than they do.
Only seven people decide these noms? That seems like so few! How many people/who gets to vote for the winners?
Any nominating committee that includes Matthew Murray to me is automatically invalidated.

Hm. I think Wedding Singer should have been nominated for set design. I really like the spinning restuarant effect and the airplane effect.
I'm also surprised Bernarda Alba got somewhat snubbed.

To answer Songsstresss' question, there are about 140 members of the Drama Desk. Although the 7 nominators cover Broadway, Off-Broadway and Off-Off-Broadway, history has shown that 90% of the awards will go to the cast and creative teams of Broadway shows. Often, but not always, the nominee who has the highest profile in a currently running Broadway show wins.
I can't believe color purple got shut out like that but wedding singer got all those nods?? crazyness!
No La Chanze. If there is an axe to grind it shouldn't be at the expense of a remarkable performer,
