Where is Judy Kaye?
WHERE IS JUDY KAYE????
Very glad to see the multiple nominations for Grey Gardens and Sweeney Todd.
Still have some issues though:
Mano didnt get the nom and Alexander did which is almost beyond belief.
Threepenny got widely overlooked again. It should have many more acting nominations than it got. Also, how it did not at LEAST get a nomination for lighting is completely beyond me. That was probably the best lighting I have seen all season.
Judy Kaye was nominated last year.
JUDY KAYE WAS NOMINATED LAST YEAR.
Ah, thank you!
*puts knife away*
It's MADNESS IN HERE!
People...pull yourselves together!
"Garland Grrrl, can you not read?"
That was completely unnecessary. GG is one of our more intelligent and careful posters.
THREPENNY!!! RABBIT HOLE!!! CINDY!!!! MANO!!!! LACHANZE!!!
Can't...breathe...must...control...my...anger!
eta: Ok, better now. Continues with life.

Thrill Me? Was 90% of the score rewritten from last year?
Very happy that this show
<------------------
was not passed over, and that Michael Winther and Marc Campbell got noms (I would have given it a 'best lighting' and 'Best Musical' nom as well). Go UNMADE BED! :)
Delighted also for Peter Mills and THE PURSUIT OF PERSEPHONE!
(But ignoring Mills' brilliant lyrics?! Inexcuseable!)
Alex Gemignani of the Sweeney cast? Really? Seriously? The entire ensemble was fantastic, but I can't fathom his being singled out over Mark Jacoby or Manoel Felciano, simply in terms of part size. I was also really hoping for a Supporting Actress nomination for one of the ladies from Sweeney. That show has such a strong cast that I'm happy to see any of them nominated, but I'm a bit baffled by the supporting player they picked.
No LaChanze?
It's.... interesting. I'm sure the Tonys will shape up completely differently.

Wow. Sorry to make this redudant, but I just cannot believe the total snub for TCP. I saw Wedding Singer and liked it, but I definitely think TCP deserves a nom over it. But forgetting the musical...how can there be no nominations for La Chanze who was fantastic, and Elisabeth, who I thought was the front runner for the Tony??
Even with the inclusion of the off-bway shows, it just doesn't make sense.
On another note, I can't imagine Christine not winning best actress, so that's good.
The 1985 (86?) Oscars keep running through my head.
Does anyone take the Drama Desks seriously, anyway? I am surprised at some of the omissions as well, I mean if an interview with one of the committee can't get a girl nominated...
You know what irks me beyond endurance? I read this whole thread and would just like to point out how many people obviously didn't read the previous posts or the entire press release before putting their very important opinions out there. I think that is not only lazy but rude...end of rant.
And what about Adrienne Barbeau?

i saw Faith Healer last night and all 3 actors were top notch. The play should've gotten a nod for the set & lighting. It was incredible. Good on Grey Gardens!

I agree on Faith Healer. For me, Ian McDiarmid is simply remarkable with this tricky text.
The nominations were arrived at by a committee of seven Drama Desk members:
chairperson Barbara Siegel (Theatremania.com, TalkinBroadway.com)
Drama Desk president William Wolf (WolfEntertainmentGuide.com)
Michael Buckley (Playbill Online)
Christopher Byrne (Gay City News)
Matthew Murray (TalkinBroadway.com and Stage Directions magazine)
Andrew Propst (American Theatre Web and XM Satellite Rado)
Richie Ridge (Broadway Beat TV)

Yay, Zeljko Ivanek! I'm kinda surprised they didn't consider his role featured, however.
ETA: And yay for David Pittu! I'm so glad Celebration/The Room wasn't forgotten.

Some of the people on that committee frighten me and have, IMO, shown some very dubious tastes in their reviews.
That explains a lot....

I kind of agree that THE COLOR PURPLE doesn't really deserve any noms, but it surprises me none-the-less.
I think TCP should have gotten acting nods. LaChanze is a wonderful Celie.

I'm surprised they left out John Lee Beatty for Rabbit Hole's set. That was incredible design!
