I have tickets later in the run and can't wait!
Would love to hear your thoughts during the preview run!!
I'll be there on Tuesday, October 12 (seeing SCOTTSBORO today, WOMEN/VERGE tomorrow, I REMEMBER MAMA Saturday).
Looking forward to seeing Regrave and Jones on stage together...not to mention Gaines!
I saw the dress rehearsal last night. I'm not going to go into the technical details as it hadn't even started previews yet, but I really enjoyed the show and I thought the performances were very strong, especially Vanessa Redgrave. The accent James Earl Jones was using was very hard to understand at first, but as the show went on that became less of a problem. I'd be curious to hear what others think of the set, it was very minimalist with a huge blank wall at the back upon which occasionally were projections.
I saw the dress rehearsal as well. I didn't much care for it. I just didn't feel any emotional connection from the show, and that could have totally been due to the fact that it was a dress rehearsal and Redgrave is struggling with lines and tech elements, but I'm sure it will get there. Regrave and Jones are great together though. I really liked their chemistry and this sort of friendship blossoming. I didn't care for the direction. It's a little too minimalist to me. The way they do the car is a little stupid, and uninventive. It's Broadway people!

does anyone know if Redgrave and Jones have been doing stage door?

Happened to be walking by the other night and saw the pretty large stage door crowd outside the Golden. From what I could tell, it looked like they both came out but went straight to their cars.
I'll be there tomorrow night.
I saw it on Monday night and loved it. It didn't really capture me until the last few scenes, but by that time I was bawling my eyes out. Vanessa Redgrave was my absolute favorite. She may have had only one line flub in the show and it wasn't even noticeable. James Earl Jones was sweet and endearing, but at times I found him difficult to understand (from the 2nd to last row in the Rear Mezz). Boyd Gaines was also fabulous. He came out the stage door and signed for everyone near the front. Vanessa Redgrave came out and made a speech that she was so sorry, but that she had to go because she had a doctor's appointment the first thing in the morning as she was still battling off a case of bronchitis. She apologized for not sticking around longer and thanked us as a group for our presence and appreciation of the show. She spotted a little girl near the front and did sign her playbill. She really was so sweet. James Earl Jones came out as well, but went straight to his car. He waved, though, and smiled as we all clapped for him. What a dear cast and a beautiful show. Go see it if you can!
