Posted: 7/31/12 at 7:18pmwhat kind of film? Just filming the performance as a stage play or actually developing a new film for small/big screen? I don't think any other Garland film could surpass Judy Davis' tour de force performance in the 2001 Me and My Shadows TV movie. There was also talk of Ann Hathaway doing a movie about Garland too, no?

Posted: 7/31/12 at 8:51pm^ Originally I had thought of 'Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella' but then I realized that the producers might want a theater where they can use large sets.

"Rave reviews" means overall great reviews. "Rave reviews" does not mean Ben Brantley loved you and the rest of the reviews were okay to bad. It's like when HOT FEET advertised as a "smash hit."

Posted: 7/31/12 at 9:03pmCinderella would be stunning in the Belasco, but I would imagine they need something bigger. Then again, Dracula was a large production that fit it in the Belasco.

Saw End of the Rainbow on Sunday and really loved it, although I went in with mixed expectations. I'm glad to hear that the show will have a life after it's Broadway run.
Regarding Cinderella, I heard that it will be at the Broadway Theatre after Sister Act.

I thought this was a great show that was marred by zealous fans of Judy Garland. I'm sad to see it go.

Saw the show and enjoyed it. Tracie was magnetic and Cumpsty, as usual did a fine job as well. Thought Pelphrey's performance could have been a bit more nuanced especially at the key moment where he decided to "change his approach". None the less, a good production with a memorable performance by Bennett. Sad to see it go but it always had a niche audience, those who remember Judy beyond just having seen Wizard of Oz once or twice when they were kids, so to get almost 5 months out of it is not a bad achievement. Good luck to her on the tour.

"what kind of film?"
It sounds like it will be a "film adaptation." So it will be re-staged and filmed, rather than just a filmed performance. Not really clear on any more details than that.

I thought the show was fantastic and I was completely mesmerized by her performance. I think there was a lot of people who had major misconceptions about what the show was actually about. I know big Judy fans in the city who were shocked that I had not only seen the show twice, but that I loved it. When I asked them why they wouldn't go and see it, they said things like they had heard she throws up during her performance at Talk of the Town, that she falls off the stage at one point and some other really out there things. I heard this from a lot of people and it just made me realize that there was a lot of bad mouthing of this show by those who hold Judy very high. While it wasn't a charming portrayal of her, it was her towards the end, and I guess I still don't understand what people were expecting. Her life had a sad end and that's just the way it was.
Both times I saw the show I heard people around me say that this was not a show that they had planned on coming to see, but a friend gave them the tickets or they got them on TKTS- each time those people walked away raving about the show.

That's a shame, just bad mouthing, or Chinese whispers. She never did vomit in the Talk Of The Town scenes. It was right near the end in the hotel before the last song, and 'we' only heard her retching with her back to us, she didn't vomit at all; this was as a result of her taking too much Ritalin, [a warning about drug taking to any youths in the audience] Apparently it was cut out altogether for Broadway.
She never fell off the stage either...not even once.

Oh, please people need to get over it. The play was extreemely well done and riveting. Perhaps, a little too intense for todays Broadway audience who rather spend their time at Snoozies and Peter and the Snooze Catcher. My mom and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I really wanna try to go and see it again before it closes. And for all those who were offended, how did they want her depicted as Julie Andrews?? She was a hard core alcohloic/addict during her last years. Hello, that's how she met her end.

^ And that was my point. Anyone who knows anything about her knows that she lived a very rough life. To expect that the show was going to end with her walking off into the sunset, or portray her final days in London as a happy joyous time are delusional.
I thought the show was just terrific and her performance was such a breathtaking one.

But I should think it's too late to try and put across what a wonderful performance the nay sayers have missed. After all, three Tony nominations doesn't indicate a poor production

Baby, It's You was nominated for a few Tonys, and it was one of the biggest pieces of garbage ever produced on a Broadway stage.
A Tony nomination means nothing.
