Well, the nude scene is quite tense, at least at the beginning, and the audience I saw it with was dead quiet. I'm assuming the reaction here will be the same. It's not a scene that lends itself to catcalling. At least I hope not.

I agree. When I saw the show in London, there wasn't a sound out of anyone when that scene started and "Alan" took off his clothes. Personally, I was so caught up in the story at that point that the nudity was secondary.

Glad it works in the moment and the plot that well. Looking forward to it.

And I wasn't referring to catcalling or anything--just an audible sense of "oh s---, he's doing it!" through a collective gasp, murmuring, etc., which would add to the spectacle. You never know with American crowds. Considering the Disney contingent on Broadway, who knows how many families will go to see "Harry Potter on Broadway."

I agree. For most people, I would hope that they are so engaged in the scene, the nudity will be secondary. It truly is a small part, so to speak, of the show itself. This is a fantastic play and I hope that people will see it for the show itself and not simply because of its cast. I do not think that the U.S. audience is likely to react any differently than the U.K. audience did. It's not like there hasn't been nudity onstage here before, TonyV. Like I said, the nudity is minimal in the context of the show, unlike other shows, e.g., Take Me Out, which thousands of theatre-goers saw.

Well MSNBC has picked up on it. Took a while for it to come up.

I haven't seen it before, but I'm familiar wit the text. Sounds really, really intense! With Daniel and Richard in the leads, I have an inkling it'll be a 'hot ticket' whatever way look at it! EQUUS '08 - Huzzah!

The reports I heard from London claimed this was a bit of a soggy evening. But with the barely-legal nudity and no doubt a starf**ker rave from Brantley, I'm sure it will be boffo...as long as Radcliffe is in it.

I wish I could have seen it when Harry Hamelin played Alan. Ah, well...

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ~ Muhammad Ali

I love the fact that Radcliffe is using the live stage to show that there is more to him than Harry Potter. (yikes...you know what I mean) What he is doing takes more maturity, discipline, and courage than is displayed by the vast majority of celebrities out there, even those more than twice his age.

"I meant the actual nights of the premiere- the London, NY, and LA premieres. In the past he's gone to all three of them."

More than likely they will not have a performance that night.

And honestly, it'll be (at least) a good show. Radcliffe really does a fine job. I thought he could use a little more layering in his line readings at times but he honestly impressed me very much.
