EVITA's Heading Back to Broadway with Ricky Martin & Elena Roger - Spring 2012!#2

Posted: 6/9/10 at 1:20pmThis announcement seems odd. A couple days ago, the director was interviewed by playbill.com, and he said there were no plans to bring the production to the US yet. You'd think that it would take more than just a couple of days to go from having no plans to having an official announcement.

Posted: 6/9/10 at 2:37pmRicky Martin? Was Betty White not available? Ricky doesn't seem to have the fierceness that Che needs. I assume he's Che and not Migaldi?

Posted: 6/9/10 at 2:39pmKeep in mind that the character of Che in this production is not explicitly 'Che Gueverra' as in the Hal Prince staging. The character is represented more as the 'every man' character Antonio Banderas played in the movie. Indeed a lot of aspects of this revival are heavily influenced by Alan Parker's vision for the film.

What was the one announced before Funny Girl and Evita? I remember reading about it a while ago, but I don't remember what it was.

"The character is represented more as the 'every man' character Antonio Banderas played in the movie. Indeed a lot of aspects of this revival are heavily influenced by Alan Parker's vision for the film."
Which was a horrible concept. The thing that is great about the original is the irony that it's CHE commenting on the PERONS.

Here's a much better article regarding this news:
No offense but BWW articles are laughable. One paragraph of the actual news followed by 15 paragaraphs detailing every credit attributed to whoever is part of the production. So much "padding"...too much blah, blah, blah.

Once again Broadway producers missed the boat. Ricky Martin should be playing Evita. Now, THAT would fill seats. No imagination.
