Watching an old Maverick I taped while on vacation & who pops up but Joel Grey as Billy the Kid. He looked like he was about 12 years old. I previously saw him on a Surside 6 episode. Apparently, when starting out, he did a lot of TV shows on Warner Brothers TV shows of the 50's & 60's

Didn't he also do an episode of ALICE with Linda Lavin where he sang and danced with her?

Never watched it & I do not see it on in reruns anywhere. That is why it is fun to watch these shows from th 50 & 60's . You see virtually every big actor on them . I never tire of them & find them quite enjoyable. I love Man from U.N.C.L.E. ( even though they used sleep darts instead of bullets in their guns ), Maverick, Sugarfoot, Cheyenne, Bronco,I Spy, 77 Sunset Strip, Hawaiian Eye, Surfside 6, Bourbon St Beat, & The F.B.I. .

Checked IMDB he was on Alice, Its more amusing to look at the names of the characters he played on the television shows he did...
Owny O'Reilly
Runt Bowles
They just don't write names like that anymore...
IMDB- Joel Grey

So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life.~Office Space

That's cool about Joel being a child actor. Who knew! And yes, he did two back to back episodes of ALICE in 1982 titled "Alice at the Palace" and "Joel Grey Saves The Day". It also featured Michael Rupert as the director of the show. Below is a link to a picture of Michael on his website with Linda Lavin.

I also recall Joel Grey on a TV comedy series called "December Bride" starring actress Spring Byington. Grey was probably about 20 then. This was in the 50's. It was a family comedy show. He left an impression on me of his talent.
