Do you think it's easier for boys to get on Broadway then girls? I mean, I don't mean to sound sexist or anything, but on this other forum, we took a poll, and 80 percent girls wanted to be on Broadway while only 20 percent boys wanted to be.

The people who took the poll are only a minuscule amount of the amount of people who really want to be on Broadway. Also, perhaps there are just more girls than boys on the forum.
But I don't understand the percentages. What does that have to do with whether or not it is easy to be on Broadway? If anything, it would be a measure of how many people want to be on Broadway.
Whether or not a male or female can make it on Broadway depends on the types of roles offered out there.

actually, there was only a slight difference between the amount of boys and girls,
but i was thinking, i know this may be bad judgement, but if that was the same for most girls and boys, more girls wanting to be on Bway more than boys, then girls have more to go against in auditions and stuff
i dunno just a thought

Well, its nearly impossible for both sexes, but I would say guys have it a little easier. Mostly because there aren't as many of them and (this is NOT meant to be sexist in any way!) those that are there seem more resiliant and able to take repeated loses. I'm speaking from experience here. However, there are a lot of very strong women on the market, many of whom I would NOT mess with, who will die before leaving New York. A lot of people say that, but the harsh reality is very very difficult.
Rant over. Guys have a higher percentage chance, but its still very very low.

You also have to look at the number of male roles on Broadway vs. female. I would say men have a slight advantage.
Also, I would argue that there is a great variety of male roles (ages, ethnicities, body types, etc.) while there are very limited types of female roles, which would also be a factor.

i definitely think it's more difficult for women to obtain roles in shows simply because of the intense competition and pressure of the industry.
NOT to say that there is no competition or pressure to get mens' roles, however, i've seen some women who are just plain cruel...

Posted: 1/7/05 at 1:33amFrom the eyes of whatever casting director you audition in front of and based on who is needed for certain shows, I couldnt honestly guess who it would be easier for. I, myself, would hope that the difficulty for a female to get a role was no harder then a male's or vice versa but the reality is that more women do audition for roles and because shows do need men in the cast it is sometimes easier for men to get a part. I dont think it can be generalized however, considering the needs for each production vary so wether its harder for a woman or a man to get a role would be based on that individual show. Some plays need more women then men and vice versa depending on the story line etc so i think it can really vary.

Posted: 1/7/05 at 10:09amIt doesn't help the girls that casts have more males in them than females.
