Not surprised about Gerard either. His Broadway stories would never get any traction on Deadline. There would never be any comments on his stories. Outside NYC no one really cares about Broadway, especially in Hollywood.

it has long been believed that the reviews in the Post receive less traffic than many tertiary online sites. One easy way to assess what advertising people know is to look at the dearth of theatre advertising in the Post. So now Riedel has been cut back and she has been let go. Not a surprise any more than what happened at Deadline.

While I'm sad to see the elimination of the position, I seldom agree with her reviews. Of all the major critics, I thought she was the poorest. Her's is "voice" I won't really miss. I think she should return to writing about music. She was better at that.

Gerard's I wasn't a huge fan of a lot of what he wrote. I found them tone deaf and simply not correct. Elizabeth is a loss. Loved that she could provide quality criticism but still be totally snarky.

In person she is such a character almost a stereotype of a critic. She literally turns her nose up when she is feeling distain. Gotta love her.......

Agreed about Gerard, everythingtaboo. His reviews were regularly off the mark. It's a shame to lose Elisabeth (that's how she spells her name, for the record), but the Post has been cutting back her stuff for awhile, so no one should be surprised.

As Jesse Green semi-seriously jokes, he's the only critic on that show that actually works for a periodical, so I'm hoping Elisabeth will still make appearances on Theatre Talk. I love Patrick Pacheco, but he's not as sharply honest as she is on that show.

Really sorry that she's no longer with the Post. I found myself agreeing with her more often than with just about any other critic, and she is very entertaining on Theater Talk, to boot. Hope she gets another gig soon.

Suppose website have heat maps of what is popular and not, compared to others - so this would have made the decision for the New York Post. gone are they days of the great Clive Barnes.
Theatre related articles are on the decline, which is a shame.
