Ellen Page -- sad to discover she's a one-trick-pony. Can she actually speak in ANY other voice tone than her own? Watching her on SNL this past Saturday night validated what alot of well-versed people have said about her in JUNO -- she IS Juno, that wasn't a character she was playing. She speaks in the 'Juno' voice tone for EVERY character she played on SNL. Sad, sad, sad... as I really enjoyed her in JUNO.
Now... as for that Peter Pan skit? HILARIOUS! Aside from Fred Armison's little wacky newspaper commentary on Weekend Update, that Peter Pan skit was flat out hilarious. Whenever Ellen flew off again I just lost it.

The Peter Pan sketch was amazing!
Too bad that like BrodyFosse123 said, Ellen Page was totally uninspired, I know that jumping into sketch comedy if you have never done it before can be daunting, but she fell flat in almost every sketch she was in. Oh well. I still like her.

re: Ellen Page on SNL#6
Posted: 3/3/08 at 12:12pmShe was just Juno with a haircut. It's okay Kevin Costner and Molly Shannon have made a career out of playing one character so why shouldn't Ellen Page?

Posted: 3/3/08 at 12:16pmMany MANY actors make a living playing the same role over and over again with a different accent or different costumes. MANY!

Posted: 3/3/08 at 12:18pmI watched and enjoyed both Juno and Hard Candy but she was definitely a fish out of water in this. I didn't even watch very much of it, she was just the same character the whole time.

Well, actually, many are...
I wish I could find a clip of Page's Peter Pan. SNL's website doesn't seem to have it yet. I can't wait till they do.

Posted: 3/3/08 at 12:20pmSorry...Juno was about the most boring character I've EVER seen.

I didn't see her in SNL, and perhaps she wasn't good in that, but to say that she's just a one-trick pony because you saw her in all of two projects (one of which does not even entail an actual role) is absurd--not surprising coming from Brody.
Her performance in HARD CANDY is one of the most chilling I have seen and should have earned her her first Oscar nod. Miles better than her beautiful, touching portrayal of Juno.

I thought she was ok. Peter Pan was great! And she was kinda funny in that skit she did in the Baby Gap being all "ghetto-fabulous".
Loved Hard Candy, have yet to see Juno tho.

Posted: 3/3/08 at 12:32pmThere's a thread about this on the OT board. Page was terrible. Hillary should have hosted to whole show. She was looser and funnier in her one sketch the page was throughout the whole thing.

Seems many have posted the clip on YouTube.com which have since been removed.
Keep checking, though... right, ray-andallthatjazz86?
Also, ray-andallthatjazz86 --- my observation seems to be unanimous (just read the other threads anywhere). Not only in her films (yes, even in X-MEN: THE LAST STAND), but on SNL this past weekend. Her Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana spoke in that drone 'Juno' voice (and personality) as did her bit as Viginica's ghetto step-daughter.
I love Ellen Page. It was just upsetting to see she can't break-out of that voice and personality.
Christina Aguilera's comic skills when she hosted SNL were sharp and solid, as opposed to this Oscar nominated actress.
Comparable to Annette Bening's train-wreck appearance (she couldn't read a cue card to save her life!). I hit the delete button on my Tivo after the 3rd skit. It was painful. Poor Annette.

Posted: 3/3/08 at 12:54pmLet's not forget that a lot of the writing on SNL has gotten really bad. It seems as if THEY don't put much effort into it, so the guest hosts and cast only have what the writers give them to work with which is quite often crap.

Like I said, I've yet to see the episode (have it saved on bf's DVR), but I did get to see Tina Fey's episode. She was of course a natural (and reminded me of how much I used to love SNL) but the writing left A LOT to be desired.
And Brody, you mention how awful Annette Bening was, but does that make her film and stage work any less impressive? I just don't see why people (not you, specifically) can make grand statements about Page's work based on a bad stint on a (mostly) badly-written TV show.

Part of what made it look so bad was that her opening monologue involved a fake Diablo (the Juno writer) coming on and telling her to read the monologue Diablo wrote, not her own, but it was "too Juno" for Ellen. When she switched back and forth it was pretty much the same voice and same delivery, with the only difference between the two being some "izzles" a the ends of the words (pretty much the entire humor of the monologue).
So I think the fact that the opening monologue was "This is Juno, but this is Ellen" in the exact same voice exacerbated the feeling.

Posted: 3/3/08 at 1:43pmDid she come out during the last skit or did I just completly make that up?
re: Ellen Page on SNL#21
Posted: 3/3/08 at 1:59pmAside from Fred Armisen during Weekend Update and Hilary Clinton appearing in the first skit, nothing really interested me this week. Hopefully next week will be better with Amy Adams.

SNL hasn't been great in years, which is a shame because they have some really great players. I love Kristin Wiig and Andy Samberg.
I was thinking the same exact thing as Brody. This episode of SNL proved that Ellen Page can't play anybody but herself. She got an Oscar nomination for playing herself.
Christina Aguilera did a Samantha Jones dead-on when she appeared a couple of years ago. It was hilarious.
Fred Armisen did that same thing on Weekend Update a while ago. It is no longer funny.
Last week, the best part was Tina's segment on Women in the media on Weekend Update.
Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers constantly deliver the most unfunny jokes to Weekend Update. They are the worst thing that's ever happened to Weekend Update. Remember Jimmy Fallon and Tina Fey? Greatest team ever.

This skit was actually funny. I miss SNL being funny... Christina really was great.

She was fantastic! Imagine Ellen Page doing that.
Whatever happened to Maya Rudolph and Rachel Dratch? Horatio Sanz was also a great player.
I personally thought that SNL's strongest was back in 2000-2002 when they had Will Farrell, Molly Shannon, Ana Gasteyer, Jimmy Fallon, all in one episode.
