Now that Jenna is gone, who will be the other Elphaba understudy on tour?
Do they need one? Julia Murney is kick ass with attendance.
Julia missed a show today.
Her understudy is Maria Eberline.
edited because someone spread false information.
....I, apparently, lose at life.
Okay. IN THE PAST, Julia Murney never misses anything.
Word.
Julia is missing shows already?
Eek.
hopefully she is missing the shows not because the role is too vocally taxing for her, but because she is actually sick. feel better, Julia!
If she starts missing shows like every other day, then she'll deserve it, but I'll be really sad if people start criticizing her off the bat because of this. There's something going around; maybe she's just sick.
Now that Jenna is gone, in addition to Maria Eberline (the second cover in the Ensemble,) they have hired a standby, Victoria Matlock. Her bio is not yet up on the "Wicked" site, but I think she has a website of her own somewhere...
Maria Eberline said that she will still be alternated with the standby though, so she will still get to go on, as evident by her doing both shows today (since Victoria is probably not fully rehearsed yet.)
City transitioning is tough to begin with, and the weather is constantly changing... so it wouldn't surprise me if it hit her hard. Sigh.
It really is the sniffing, coughing, sneezing season. Just look around, I bet she just caught something. Though how do witches get sick?
Victoria Matlock toured in Evita recently and her website is victoriamatlock.com
ooo...I saw Maria Eberline and thought she was fantastic. Glad to see she's still performing the role.

Could Julia also only be contracted for six shows a week? Maybe that's why she wwas out... I don't really know, just an idea.
If that were the case, wouldn't she be out for matinees on two-show days, not one entire day? That seems a little counter-intuitive, because then she would still have one two-show day.
In any event, I don't think she is.
Would you prefer her just be sick than for the role to be too vocally taxing? If she's sick...she can get over it in less than a week and not worry about it. If the role is too much, you never know how much she's going to be missing.
Yes, ShuQ. I really hope she is sick. If the role is too vocally taxing for her and she is missing a lot of shows, people are going to be very disappointed.

the role is pretty much too vocally taxing on everyone who does it.
just because someone does 8 shows a week, didn't mean that they were all good!
as ALWAYS..i applaud someone who knows when to say NO and rests their instrument. NO ONE can play the violin with a broken string and it can not be played until the string can be replaced.
julia is a powerhouse..so if this role is too tough for HER then MAYBE they will realize that Elphie and Glinda need good alternates like i have been saying for MONTHS.
but whatever....no one ever listens to me!
I don't claim to know her schedule, but when you say "she's out already?"... you probably aren't taking into consideration whatever possible rehearsals she's had to sing through in the past few weeks. So in essence she hasn't JUST started and she's probably sang WAY more than we're giving her credit for.
And if it makes you feel better, I read somewhere else that she only missed one show today, not two. Someone who was actually there said on another board that she was in for the evening.

Julia was in for the evening show tonight. Maria Eberline was only on for the matinee.
That's weird. Someone posted that he went to try the lottery for this evening's show, and that the board said Julia was out tonight.
Of course, it could still have not been changed since the matinee, and he could've just made an assumption that lead to unnecessary confusion. I saw that, believed it, and consequently look like an idiot.
ugh.

its going to be very sad to see people getting witchy (no pun intended) because julia will miss some shows and she will probably miss some!
its a really hard role to sing and those who HAVE done 8 Elphaba shows a week, didn't necessarily do them all really well! SOME people don't want to go on unless they can give it 110%...EVERY SHOW..period.
kendra misses and people get upset..kendra goes on and doesn't feel well and she is accused of phoning it in.
if the people making those criticisms have DONE a national tour of a show for a year at a time...8 shows a week in a very demanding role..then ok, you MAY KNOW what its like. although, everyone is different... those of you who haven't..how can you possibly sit at your computer and just rag on them??? really..PLEASE...give them a break..you HAVE NO IDEA how demanding and grueling it is.
please be nice...

what do you MEAN..hopefully she is out cause she is really sick?!!!!
do you actually think that someone IN THEIR FIRST week of doing the show would "just not FEEL LIKE going to work so they could stay in their hotel and watch Grey's Anatomy?!??!!!!!"
OY YOY YOY....

I think their reasoning is that if she is sick she'll get better and be in, but if she's out cause it's too vocally taxing she'll be out a lot more...
Andrew, I think most get your point
Not worth getting frustrated with those that don't.
Em - the board was probably still up from the matinee.
