Hear, hear! At least John and the recently crowned (sorry for bringing a monarchy back into this) Viola Davis earned their EGOTs for actual creative work rather than relying on a producer-only award to complete their haul.

Did he win for his performance or was the award for the production of the special?  My point is, has anyone ever actually gotten the EGOT moniker for winning in strictly competitive performance categories?

Both. His official credit on the award is "Executive Producer/Performer." (He still wouldn't qualify for your question since the Oscars and Tony were for music writing.)

Helen Hayes, Rita Moreno, Sir John Gielgud and Viola Davis all won the four awards for performances. (Gielgud's first Tony was for Outstanding Foreign Company as part of the cast of The Importance of Being Earnest; his second was for directing.)

Following SIR Elton John's recent win, we re-watched "Rocketman".  Still enjoyable, and definitely worth a look by those who haven't seen the film (or a second look by those who have).

Pretty sure the protocol doesn’t call for “Sir” to be all capital letters. They seem to be strict about these things.

Anyway, yeah, Rocketman is great. I also really enjoyed Elton’s memoir from around that time. Taron Edgerton is the narrator on the audiobook, worth checking out.

Elton is a class act. Everyone that work on the special just received a gift from him. Bless
