John Laroquette! Santino Fontana! Christiane Noll! I just got WAY more excited for this.
I haven't gone to that many Encores before but I thought the balcony was cheap. I had seats in the first row or so for LITTLE SHOP and could have sworn they were $25 but for this show the front balcony is $90. Are those always the prices?
None of these people were on my dream-cast list and I am still SO excited.
What a great ensemble of talent! Should be a fascinating production, too.
I wish that the article mentioned who everyone in the cast was playing, but it looks like a fantastic line-up! I might have to finally make it to an Encores show for this one.
That cast sounds great! The only one I'm not excited about is Alexander Gemignani who I've never found to be a very exciting or interesting actor. I don't think he has the voice to make Molasses to Rum exciting and chilling in the way it should be.
Everyone else sounds wonderful, though.
Can't wait!
Dammit! I was hoping they'd use Marisa Tomei for this. She's be incredible!! Or Tina Fey even. Oy!

I was REALLY hoping that they'd get Norm Lewis to play Rutledge.
They should have started a trend and used a racially diverse cast. Can you imagine a latino George Washington?!?!? How cool would that be?
Oh wait . . . . ![]()
I love Santino and I am sure he will pull this off but I have two reservations about his casting...
He is too young. And he is too naturally charming. John Adams is "obnoxious and disliked". He also seems pretty young next to Christine Noll.
Never been crazy about Alexander Gemignani. He has a decent voice but is very boring and I wonder if it wasn't for his father would he have the career he does.
George Wa****ongn is not an on stage character in 1776.
Well Santino is actually the age Abigail would have been and Christiane is the age that John would have been, so really neither of them is the "right" age. That being said, I'm always impressed at how well Santino is able to disappear into a role.
I'm actually a little nervous about Christiane. I don't think she has the bite necessary for Abigail. I fear she may play her a little too soft.

LITTLE SHOP was Encores! Off-Center, which has a different pricing structure. I believe last summer had a special pricing of $25 for most seats in the house. That is not normal Encores pricing.
The renovation a few years ago greatly improved the sightlines, so they can charge more than they used to for the balcony, but my subscriber seats in the front side balcony are only $40 or so. Are you sure you weren't looking at the front mezz? Or maybe the center balcony is more expensive. Look at the side sections, the sightlines are just as good.

I'd like to see this, but it looks like there's almost no orchestra seating left for any performance except for the VIP seats. I've only ever sat in the orchestra at City Center; how's the view from higher up? Worth the high price of tickets for this?
I've never sat anywhere other than the balcony and never paid more than $25. Usually in the mid-balcony, but I think the view is great, and i love the space. Just a pain to get to.

I thought they previously announced that they were planning to use a more racially diverse cast?
Speaking of young, Rutledge is the youngest member of the continental congress at 26. They say as much in the show, too. Gemignani may look older than Santino in this production.

If you go through the members of the ensemble, you'll see that it's a fairly diverse cast.

I think Noll will be ideal, voice wise, but Santino does seem rather young. On the other hand, since Encores! is semi-staged, there is a lot of room to make things work.
I am through the roof that Nikii Renee Daniels was cast. That girl has a stunning voice that I think will lend itself very well to the score.
