I feel like there must be more impressive things out there than Hugh Jackman's show.
I still stand by the fact that the best show of 2011 was The Shaggs: Philosophy of the World! It was just flat-out brilliant!

Sons of the Prophet should have made that (and every) list.

Posted: 12/26/11 at 1:21amI feel biased, but it still blows my mind that The Normal Heart could not be on anyone's top ten. I'm not saying it's number one (I mean, it's not my number one), but it amazes me the things that have been chosen above it.

Their theatre writer seems to be a tourist for the most part. I take issue with what a lot of EW endorses. For instance, on their best albums of the year list was Demi Lovato and Rihanna. WTF.
Any Best Theatre list that does not include Sons of the Prophet and The Normal Heart is just amateur.

Posted: 12/28/11 at 7:59amTheir theatre coverage has always been extremely hit or miss and half hearted (one page monthly or whatever and a few more online, with no stable theatre critic who has gained a reputation). On the other hand I don't think choosing Rihanna on a best album list is wrong--they're a pop culture magazine so I don't expect ome Pitchfork style indie cred list.
