You know the one, I believe the year was 1985. The concert starred George Hearn, Lee Remick, Mandy Patinkin, Barbara Cook, Carol Burnett, Elaine Stritch, Comden and Green, etc. etc.

I have the video of this FOLLIES in concert--OR I SHOULD SAY, the video I have is full of "backstage" stuff.........interviews, etc.........Only a certain portion shows the "actual concert."

IS THE FULL concert, JUST the concert, available anywhere? I have never seen this concert from beginning to end, only the version interspersed with the "making of the concert."

Does anyone know if a dvd or video (of course I have the cd already) of the full FOLLIES IN CONCERT exists and where I may get it? Thanks for your help dear board people!

The full concert has never been made available to the general public, unfortunately.

Can anyone tell me exactly what it is that Stritch says to the "Beautiful Girls" in the wings just as they're about to walk down the stairs, and Phyllis Newman says "Oh my God!" ?

Margo, someone needs to get Stephen on the phone and remedy this situation. I would love to SEE the full concert, wouldn't you?

Supposedly, what you see of the concert is just about all that was filmed. It's been said that PBS didn't have enough money to shoot the thing in its entirety. I have to believe there's more out there, but that's the rumor, at any rate.

Magruder, we need to do something about this! Surely someone out there has this "lost footage."

BY THE WAY, did you know that on the day of the first performance of FOLLIES IN CONCERT at Lincoln Center, they did a tech dress rehearsal in front of an invited audience?

If memory serves me correctly, Sondheim had "invitations" done inviting folks to this tech dress, with the words:

YOU ARE INVITED TO HOMOSEXUAL TORTURE!

This was because the audience attending the tech rehearsal was unable to make noises, laugh, applaud or anything.(Remember that FOLLIES IN CONCERT was conceived for and primarily done for the audio recording.)

The divine Stephen realized that gay guys being unable to APPLAUD for FOLLIES songs performed by the likes of Elaine Stritch and Carol Burnett and Barbara Cook, was tatamount to being Homosexual Torture.

I love it.

Magruder, the entire concert was filmed.

Yeah, but for commercial release? Surely it would have been out by now, after 20 years.

Ah, that's completely different. No, they haven't put it out for commercial release, which is a shame because it would be great to put out there for everyone to see.

After watching how "I'm Still Here" was butchered (not by Carol Burnett but by the cuts made in the song) I gave up & have not watched the Follies DVD since

MR ROXY, I agree........the low point of the video and certainly the recording are Burnett's version of I'M STILL HERE. Love the woman, but I'M STILL HERE was butchered on video and is not particularly fetching on the recording.

I still wanna hear Liza perform I'M STILL HERE someday.

Wildcat, Liz was clearly overdosing on Stanislavsky when that moment was captured on video.
