"Disney's purpose for Newsies was to release it for community theatres. Only once they saw that it had legs, they decided to take it to Broadway. They didn't go in thinking "This could be our next Broadway show." They just road the coattails. "
Understood it was not originally intended for Broadway but they still saw something in a movie that flopped to try and put in on the stage.
I'm not really sure I understand your point, Yankee. Disney is reaping the benefits of Frozen with the Disney world attractions and the upcoming Broadway show cause it's the shiny new toy that made them a crap load of money. They have the upcoming Broadway show, the new Disney world attractions and the inevitable sequel. They are going to squeeze everything they can out of that cash cow. I think we can both agree on that, so I'm not sure what we are disagreeing on.
"Disney has made well over 50 animated feature films (and far more live-action films). Since 1992, they have staged 7 animated feature films (and 1 at Radio City in the 70s). They also staged 2 of their live-action films, toured 1 revue and produced 1 original musical. In our lifetime, they could never stage all their movies. "
Disney has had pretty good success also considering three of their shows (Beauty and The Beast, Lion King and Mary Poppins) have had very long runs.
I'm really excited for this broadway show. I love everything about Frozen. And I'm not the type to whine about a movie turning into a musical, as long as it's good.

I don't see what the issue is here. This is about entertainment! Who cares about the motive behind it? If it's good, it's good. Whether you like it or not, there is no denying Frozen's success and the future success of this show. Frozen has a HUGE fanbase! The film came out more than a year ago and it is still very "in". With that said...I think it will make an excellent Broadway show, especially with some reworking!
It has a strong plot that will get more fleshed out with new scenes, it has complex and interesting characters, though not every song is a "showstopper", there are some very spectacular songs: "For the First Time In Forever" (and it's reprise) and "Let it Go."
And the stage version will probably extend some numbers to make them even more thrilling ("In Summer" will probably have a kickline and a tapdance break I'm assuming).
And it's full of magic and it will draw families in! The truth is all of the Disney Broadway shows were not made for adult critics looking for a deep introspective into society, tied in a bow of sophistication, and "this artistic method and so forth and so forth". These shows are made for families. That's not saying anyone can't enjoy them, but, you know...it's a little different than say, "Chicago."

"With no soul"?
Seriously, if people can't grasp why this deserves to be huge, don't critique anything. Ever.
Showface, if people end up not liking it, will you tell them its because they don't understand that material needs to be adapted, again?

No.
Why would u assume I would do so?

Cause you did the exact same thing with Into The Woods.

*sigh*
That was a MOVIE. And would you direct me to a post where I said that? Please do. I remember I once said something along the lines of
"I've noticed that a lot of the negative reviews from fans that are upset because they ended up changing some aspect of something...but it is an adaptation and adaptations change things" (paraphrasing)
And I said nothing that was not true. I said many of the fans. Not all.
Now, would you please explain how this relates to the topic at hand? I would very much love to hear how...

Showface. From You:
"-Are the fans who do not understand that things have to be adapted (meaning: changed) for a film medium."
It relates to the topic because you seem to be of the opinion that if someone doesn't like something, then it must mean they don't understand something or are just jaded fans. You were like this all the way through that insufferable Into the woods thread. Hopefully now you have realized that people have different opinions and just because they do, that doesn't make them wrong.
Dream Cast:
Ana: Liana Hunt
Elsa: Alison Luff

I'd rather not change the topic of discussion on this thread. But again, the quote you put was not referring to all fans. But some. I've read many reviews, and those from fans who did not like it mainly were "they changed it". There was this one troll on the IMdb forum (changed his names many times and his posts got deleted), kept complaining that "Rapunzel did not die"..."they cut this or that" or whatever. He went so far as to create a fake screening review to discredit the film he did not see.
So, I said nothing that was not true...
But...still...how does this relate to me supporting Frozen?
Please let's stay on topic...

'Is this how it's going to be for the next two years?'
You know better than to ask that question. For shame.
When Frozen gets to broadway do you think Wicked will take a hit in sales and loose their grasp on young girls and tourists?
I guess it depends on if the Broadway version of Frozen (with changes/additions, cast etc) is as appealing as Wicked. I know they're not on the same level as Frozen, but did Wicked take a dip when Matilda or Aladdin premiered?
If they did "*lose their grasp" it's perfect timing, with the film adaptation supposedly coming out in 2016 or 2017.

UPDATE:
https://www.broadwayworld.com/article/Official-Update-Disney-Comments-on-FROZENs-Future-Broadway-Plans-20150213
"As has already been announced, Disney Theatrical is working on a stage adaptation of the animated film Frozen," said Thomas Schumacher, President and Producer Disney Theatrical Productions. "It will come as no surprise that the EGOT-winning Broadway veteran Robert Lopez and the Oscar and Grammy winning Kristen Anderson-Lopez, who wrote the indelible songs for the film, will be working on the show and that Oscar winner Jennifer Lee, co-director and screenwriter of the film, will be working on the book of the stage version. No other staffing or dates have been announced."
So if this is anything to go by...Alex Timbers is not officially the director and the date it will premiere is still unknown.
I hope they pull out all the stops for the Let it go number. They sort of have to since that's all anyone remembers from the film. Couldn't they just cut the musical down to 3 minutes and just perform Let it go? Just use all the money for that one song..it would be great! They could have 3 matinees!!
Bilbo3 - I guess maybe I am not great at expressing my points - lol. IMO - Disney has pushed "Frozen" in their parks quicker than any successful movie including "Beauty And The Beast" which was nominated for Oscar (Best Picture). Yes, this is their big hit and they want to capitalize on it but other better movies never got as much attention in the parks as "Frozen" will get. I just wondered why "Lion King" and "Beauty And The Beast" never got that many attractions in comparison to "Frozen".
I guess the year & the director was leaked then.
I agree, tickets for this will be almost impossible for the average Joe to get.
I'm just glad Idina's not going to be Elsa. She may have voiced the character but is physically not suited to the role onstage.

No worries, Yankeefan. It is I who should have read your post more carefully. In regards to your question, it may just be because Disney has more money now or a different director of the park. I'm not really sure.

Try telling that to Grace Randolph...
...who didn't even know that Kristen Bell has actually been on Broadway!

This thread is getting hilarious.

Didn't you hear? Frozen is the new Wicked! There's a whole new generation of the Bittie-Boobie Club soon to join BWW en masse. It's going to be 2003 all over again except this time, we're going to be older and less tolerant.
