This post was created entirely to bash someone who has not even received the role! Why don't we put the daggers away until the role has been awarded to a DESERVING talent regardless of whomever it may be. Then you can draw the daggers and beginning slicing!

>>>>TheTruth, whipsnirt's post is precisely why Team Fantasia keeps getting bashed. It's not enough for Team Fantasia to say they hope Fantasia gets the role. Instead they insist she already has the role (when she doesn't) and they insult others to elevate Fantasia (and it backfires). There are a lot of talented people involved in this film and to insult them and insist they need Fantasia is distasteful and insane. This kind of crap from Team Fantasia has been going on for months and people are tiring of it. How many people are they going to alienate while they push for Fantasia? People will stop bashing Team Fantasia when THEY learn stop bashing every other talented performer involved or rumored to be involved with the movie.<<<<
I cannot speak for any other member of "Team Fantasia", nor do I intend to do so. He he - But hey, it is always flattering to be part of a powerful group, if the rest of you all have categorized us as such. :>) I have insulted no rumored talent involved in this project to this point, save for Beyonce - and I apologize that I have little control when it comes to B...
Beyonce - part Supermodel, part soft pornography star, part studio/jingle singer, part Destiny's Child, all-around instant-add water Superstar - or so they say...HA! Whatever...I think that she is locked in, so Beyonce it is - much to my dismay.
Usher - great dancer(perhaps a notch under MJ), studio singer(not credible vocally on stage), demonstrated promising acting skills in his videos, riding the coattails of the blockbuster hit - Confessions; I think he can pull it off - good casting
Eddie Murphy - past his prime on the big screen as a headliner, credible comedian(not on Pryor's level for sure), had some flops recently on the big screen, has tried to soften his edge - turn into more Cosby, less Pryor. OK casting - I would rather see Cheedle in Murphy's locked-up role, as Cheedle is the FAR greater actor
Danny Glover - fine actor on par with Earl Jones; the type of dramatic/comedic actor that is capable of acting in any medium or genre. Excellent casting as Glover acting capacities are practically beyond criticism.
Jamie Foxx - Best thing about Foxx is that he is on Fantasia's record label, and one of her biggest supporters. In his words, IF Tasia gets the starring role the project will be "nuts" as he calls it. Foxx's acting? Jury still out. He deserved the Oscar in his breathtaking performance of Charles in "Ray"...but he does not have a huge body of work that we can evaluate - and the stuff that we can is inconsistent at best. Let us hope that he is on a role/roll after "Ray". I heard he most recently had a clunker at the box office though. I am rooting for Foxx to pull it off - OK casting that could turn out to be brilliant.
Any other performers already locked in?
The piece de resistance - *FANTASIA*
Dynamic, Soulful, a force of nature, explosion, sexy without being sleazy & cheap, REAL & identifiable, unparalleled vocalist - on par and in the line of Billie, Tina, Aretha, Patti, Anita et al. And no matter who they hype-up? Fantasia will steal the show. "And I am Telling You" will become her signature song along with "Summertime"; her other Broadway/Grand Opera Stage Aria. Fantasia is not an imitator; so she will never make long-time fans of Dreamgirls recall J Holiday. Fantasia is one of those artists that makes everything she performs new again - she deals in revelations rather than reprisings. This casting, if it happens, will absolutely bring the project together...give it realism and bite.
I welcome all comments and observations...

Rams, I can't really comment on the other stars in the movie as I have no strong feelings either way about any of them , Eddie Murphy has amused me over the years Beyonce doesn't really do a great deal for me , Jamie Foxx's work i'm not too familiar with and Usher strikes me as bland as can be , though I agree wholeheartedly about Fantasia , just praying now that she gets the role

Usher isn't locked. The contract negotiations fell through. His name is no longer mentioned on the "confirmed list."
Jamie, Beyonce, Eddie and Danny are the only performers confirmed for the film.
Anika isn't confirmed?
Contrary to popular belief... Nope.
If you read the articles "announcing" her for the role of Lorell, they steer clear of saying it's official. She has been posted on IMDb.com as Lorell. This does NOT hold up as an official announcement. That would come from either the studio or her representatives... neither of which are offering confirmation yet.
My guess? They've offered her the part, BUT just as with Usher, they are ironing out the details of her contract. It could fall through, just as we saw with Usher.
Until it's officially announced... I wouldn't count it yet.
I KNEW IT Thank you for that
I really doubt Anika would play Lorell over Fantasia
Is it true about Hinton B playing Wayne?
I haven't seen any official announcement about Hinton from the studio or Hinton's representatives, have you?
If so, then yes.
If not... then it's not official yet. Those would be the only two announcements counting as "official."
Here's the problem with "Dreamgirls" casting for the film: These contracts are HUGELY complicated. Someone can be offered a part, but it can take weeks or months to iron out all the legal details. This is why they need to lock everything very soon, if they're going into production in January.
This is speculation, but here's the scenario: Depending on the part you're offered, you have to negotiate a salary, plus residual rights for home video, international distribution, etc. THEN, because it's a musical, you have to negotiate the recording contracts and distribution rights for the music, as well. There are remixes, musical promotions, etc. THEN, because this is a musical about a pop group, there are other merchandising deals that need to be worked out. Supposing they're looking at releasing a song or album as "The Dreams." I'm guessing on that completely, but if so, there is another exhausting process of residuals and rates that need to be worked out. Your visual "likeness" in character needs to be licensed for any merchandising they may want to do. Everything from T-shirts to posters, etc. (Whew.. I just got tired writing all of it. Imagine reading through this, the back and forth on the money, etc., and finally signing your name to all of it.)
That's why these official announcements have been so slow in coming.
some of you need to get a coke and a smile and shut the *f* up already.
this is so old already.

Hey, Rams, if you want to be taken seriously, you might want to use a different name when you openly proclaim on a Fantasia fan board that you're going to join in on defending her here.

HA!
I am flattered that you would look Fantasia's webhouse up to "out me", Tallulabelle! What the heck, it was dark in that closet anyways...HA! Yes, I am a proud Fantasian that relished the opportunity to come here and write about Fantasia's talent. Could you turn that spotlight off now, Tallulabelle? The glare is brutal...

Also, why is it all that advantageous to be taken seriously here? Is this some kind of sacred house of Broadway knowledge?
I loved a particular review on the Color Purple. I was not even aware of the play. I loved best12bars break down on the negotiation process in complex productions & projects. But other than those, I have not yet been impressed by seriousness and its advantages here.
Beyonce-lover is not all that serious. She can post some cute pictures of B...but that does not necessarily seem all that serious. :>)

I agree , Rams is a Fantasia fan coming to post in a Fantasia thread , there seems nothing criminal in that , and even though this is called Broadway.com , if it was called Skateboarding.com or Carpentry weekly and there was a thread inviting opinions on Fantasia then it should be expected that interested parties would post a response

I said it once and I'll say it again, I love Fantasia, but casting her as Effie White would be wrong in my opinion. Does Fantasia even look like she could be an "Effie"? I mean, nominally speaking. She doesnt look like her name could be Effie.
Furthermore, I'd be surprised if they let Fantasia steal the thunder of all these actor/singers who have more experience than she does. Beyonce not getting to warble her butt off? Who would think? Jamie Foxx not being able to steal scenes with his trademark silliness? Come on now. I bet they're gonna get somebody else to play Effie.
Fantasia is cool and all, but I think we're all overlooking the perfect choice for this role...
