Finally got the CD. I had to wait until now because my son got it for me as a Christmas present. SOMEONE HELP! I can't stop listening to this recording. How great to have difficulty choosing a favorite. Each song has its own strengths. I can't wait to hear the music live again next week! My Top 5 - for now
Mama Who Bore Me Don't Do Sadness/Blue Wind Totally F***** Left Behind (leaves me teary) The Word of Your Body
I must say that I was excited to hear these songs, but after doing so, was disappointed. Although I loathe most of the songs, the only one that really stands out in my mind is "The Bitch of Living".
Currently, my favorite is Touch Me. It's just so beautiful!
Close seconds are Mama Who Bore Me (both) and I Don't Do Sadness.
I really like Purple Summer, too, which surprised me because I didn't really like the clips I heard of it. About Purple Summer, though, I haven't seen the show (although I know the plot, including all the really major spoilers) and I was just wondering if anyone could explain to me the basic "meaning" of the song? I kind of get it, but I don't want to go applying all sorts of symbolism that doesn't belong.
"I mean, how many of us could honestly say that at one time or another he hasn't set fire to some great public building?"
Sorry, bigbigbill...I wasn't impressed with it...probably won't listen to it again. (except the song I mentioned) I guess it wasn't what I expected. I've even seen clips online, thinking they would make the songs seem better, but they don't. I was so excited to see the show and hear the music...and now that I did...I'm disappointed. Seeing the clips online was enough for me...I won't be seeing this show. Updated On: 12/26/06 at 03:41 PM
"I'm disappointed. Seeing the clips online was enough for me...I won't be seeing this show."
Thats sad.
The "My Junk" lyrics are a little iffy (my junk is you part) but the song is so great I kind of don't care. But whenever I'm singing it around the house or something my family will be like "my junk is you?? what awful lyrics" and it makes me very sad.
I must say that "My Junk" is much better live because of what's transpiring on the stage. I don't really dig it on the recording, + I'm not the hugest fan of a few of the girls...although Phoebe Strole is excellent.
I miss Phoebe Strole's solo reprise of "The word of your body" that she used to sing when this show was at the Atlantic. She has an excellent voice, as they all do, just wish Phoebe had more solo opportunities. I think she understudies Lea, I would love to see her in that role!
My fave is one that didn't grab me at first, but after seeing the show 4 times, it really grew on me: "The Guilty Ones". It's sort of the point in the show where innocence has been lost. The lighting is breathtaking, and the little spectral refrain "And who can say what dreams are?" gives me goose bumps.
Not that I don't looooove SA, because I do, but don't the cutoffs in The Guilty Ones annoy anyone else? I used to love that song until someone pointed it out at camp this summer. But I think Those You've Known, All That's Known, and Left Behind are genius.
Touch Me and Don't Do Sadness/Blue Wind are by far my favorite. Honestly though I love every song in this show its amazing. I can't wait to see it saturday.
