"SITPWG"- Can someone explain that to me? I loved his speech for La Cage
My favourite is Dear World. I love Angela, and the score is beautiful. I haven't heard such a beautiful score since "Light in the Piazza"
Mame, Mack and Mable, and La Cage.
I'd also like to hear what Jerry's "diss to SITPWG" is all about. I loved his acceptance speech for La Cage.
Mame
I just checked my copy of "Broadway: The American Musical" where Jerry's speech is, and he said, "Thank you. You know, there's a rumour going around Broadway recently; that the simple, hummable, showtune was no longer welcomed on Broadway. Well, it's alive and well at the Palace!"
That's a dis to "SITPWG"? Okay...not!
Has to be MAME for me. "Light the candles, get the ice out..."
My favorite Herman song is from Hello Dolly, but for the overall score, it's Mack and Mabel.

Mack And Mabel and Dear World. I wish M & M would be revived for Hugh Jackman and Stephanie Block. I wish Bernadette would do Dear World. What shows are left for her to do at this stage of her career?

My Favorite Jerry Herman Story. Years ago when I was "younger" and before the Tonys moved to Radio City...I was in town for Tony weekend. When it was held at smaller theatres, during dress rehearsal the participants would come out. Well it was June...very hot..and I was wearing shorts that were a little snug. Carol Channing came out of the theatre with an older man. I went across the street and addressed my conversation only to Carol, ignoring the older man. The older man spent the entire time staring at my shorts..to the point of me being uncomfortable. When I got back to the rest of the fans, my friend visiting from Texas, made a comment to me about the older man's leering. I stated "yeah..he just kept staring". My friend said "don't I know who that was?" I stated "no"..she told me Jerry Herman. I then responded....not realizing that I was outing myself..."had I known that maybe I would have been alot more FRIENDLIER"!!!
Show: HELLO, DOLLY
Score: MACK & MABEL
It used to be Mack and Mabel but has now become The Grand Tour.
Scripps2, isn't "More and More Less and Less" a fantastic song???
There's so much in that score I love: We're Almost There; Marianne; You I Like; One Extraordinary Thing; I Belong Here and more.
I've never seen the show - I'm not aware of it ever having been done in the UK - but it strikes me as being potentially a lot more tense and dramatic than the other shows he has worked on.
La Cage, obviously. I can me in the crappiest mood yet when I hear the overture, I instantly feel better!

Mrs. Rodriguez, please stop harrassing other guests. You're going to lose your rec room priveliges if you keep this up.

You stop telling me what to do, young man, or I'll kick you until you're dead!

Mrs. Rodriguez, please. We both know you can't use your legs for anything but getting in the tub.

...and landed on your head, which is why you don't always make sense. Still you're a sweet little thing in your pajamas.

That made perfect sense, Mrs. Rodriguez. Would you like to go back to your room now? Deal or No Deal is about to start.
