I'm watching the 1999 PBS filmed version of Papermill's Crazy For You, and wow is it spectacular! Bobbie and Polly's chemistry, the dancing, costumes, incredible set, etc. It's hard to believe it's not a Broadway production. Billy Elliot, Phantom, Memphis, South Pacific, and Light in the Piazza are also some great ones.

Wasn't Papermill's version a recreation of the original Bway production?

My favorite is definitely the concert version of Carousel with Kelli O'Hara and Nathan Gunn.

I'm pretty sure it was, at least partially. I know the two leads and some other cast members were part of the OBC, but I'm not too familiar with the original production so I can't say.

I have a vivid memory of my father watching some DVD of South Pacific at Carnegie Hall with Reba McEntire, Brian Stokes Mitchell, and Alec Baldwin. He hates musicals... but I guess this one really won him over? And introduced me to South Pacific, really. So, that one, just for the sentimentality of it. I'm sure Falsettos will soon be my favorite though once it airs.

Actually, my favorite episode of Great Performances is a special done several years ago called "Porgy And Bess: An American Voice", a look at the piece over the years and its effect on American culture.  Unfortunately, it has never been made available commercially.

NYPhilharmonic Carousel and Papermill Show Boat, for sure...although I wish they would re-air The Light in the Piazza because its original broadcast was before I really "got into" musical theatre.

Do they re-air stuff often? I would love them to re-air carousel and South Pacific.
