Favorite hotels in theater district

Strongly considering a quick trip to NYC next weekend. We would see Wicked the first day and then see a matinee the next afternoon and then run back to the airport. I would like to stay fairly close to the second theater so that we may walk back to the hotel to pick up our bags and then head off to the airport. 
 

One possibility is seeing Chicago on 49th at the Ambassador. I was thinking about staying at The Pearl, The Time, The M Social, The Michaelangelo or the Hilton Garden Inn on 8th Avenue. 
 

The other possibility is seeing Company on 45th at the Bernard B. Jacobs. In addition to the previous places, I was also thinking about staying at the Room Mate Grace or the InterContinental New York Times Square.

Any thoughts on these places? Are there others you would suggest?

Just stayed at that Hilton Garden Inn this past weekend. It was a Hilton, it was good. They had a key issue on Sunday where they couldn't print keys for a bit, but oh well. It was cheap and fairly nice.

Actually, friends of ours stayed at the IC Times Square last weekend Thurs-Sun and said it was a super great deal -clean, modern room, quiet and great location to everything they wanted to do and of course BWAY. They asked for a high floor with views and they ended up on a high floor with amazing views without any additional charge. King Bed and included breakfast for just around $200 Member rate.

The cheapest ones that are well rated. I am in NY to spend money seeing shows not stay in the hotel. I would go hotwire or priceline last minute and pick 7plus during these current times.

Friends stayed at the new Margaritaville hotel in times sq over the holiday weekend and enjoyed it. 
for me, I’d go on hoteltonight app and just pick whichever is cheapest. Back in 2016 while waiting in Hamilton cancellation line that’s how we got good rates at the Edison.

Seconding the HotelsTonight recommendation. That’s what I’ve been using since broadway reopened and I’ve gotten some great last minute deals.

I stayed at The Michelangelo in December and had a great experience. Very convenient location, large rooms (particularly by NYC standards), and great customer service. No restaurant was operating at the hotel, the minibar was locked, and hotel service had to be requested, but it’s like that at a lot of places right now. I was supposed to stay there again next weekend. I had booked a very cheap rate a while back using their AAA discount on their website, but decided to cancel my trip. I’m rebooking for May and will likely stay there then.

My favorite has always been the Edison Hotel. Right in the middle of the theater district with entrances on both W 47th St (right across the street from the Barrymore Theatre) and W 46th St (right across from the "hallway" that goes underneath the Mariott Marquis Hotel [giving quick access to W. 45th St and its theaters and Shubert Alley] and diagonally across from the Richard Rodgers Theatre. Beautiful Art Deco design and prices aren't bad this time of year.

Huge fan of Hilton Garden Inn on 48th and 8th. Clean, close to everything in the theatre district, and listed for $119/night this weekend.

Great to know. I’ve looked at it and been intrigued, but was apprehensive because of some mixed reviews.

My mom always stays at the Edison with her girlfriends - going on 5-6 years now. Easy for after show drinks at The Rum House as well.

The Row is right around the corner from Company. They're not the fanciest, but they do the job. Try discount code ESEP1 for a good rate.

I had a great experience at Hotel Shocard. Just ask for a room without a view because the lights of times square are bright.

I always stay at the Riu Plaza Times Square on W. 46th @ 8th. Incredibly convenient location, small but comfortable rooms and a killer breakfast to boot.

Has anyone ever stayed at the Lincoln Motel?  A local TV station did a piece on it and it seems both decent and affordable. It's located on the NY side of the Lincoln Tunnel.

Last few years I’ve stayed at the Pod hotel. A block from Port Authority ( which makes it convenient for me arriving by bus) , clean and cheap. Near everything. Rooms are small, 2 can fit comfortably without a ton of luggage.

I wish I could say the Row because its location can't be beat but every time I tried the Row, I had to stand in a hour long line to check in, another endless line to check my bag, and another endless line to get my bag when it was time to check out. And the elevators could seriously take 15-20 minutes to get out of the building. Not cool when you're trying to catch a show. 

I prefer Hilton Garden Inn on 8th/48 or The Westin on 8th and 43rd. Both are comfortable and centrally located.

I agree the checkin line at The Row Can be horrendous (never had an issue with the baggage line- but I rarely need to check anything), but I actually love their elevator system. I wish all hotels had that system, as I find it the most efficient of any I've ever used. I also like that they have 8 elevators (though not all 8 operate on every floor), since a lot of the hotels in the theatre district operate with only 1 or 2. The elevator system is actually my very favorite part about the hotel, and I've never had to wait. It can turn into a cluster on the first floor, though, because a lot of first time visitors have no idea how to use it. There needs to be clearer instructions.

Exactly. Nobody knows how to use it and everybody stands blocking the elevators so you can't get to yours by the time the door closes.  It's maddening.
