Exactly. Nobody knows how to use it and everybody stands blocking the elevators so you can't get to yours by the time the door closes. It's maddening.

Has anyone stayed at the Artel Hotel (aka Red Roof)? Price is great and none of those pesky "resort" fees.
TIA

Is that Lord & Moris? If so, I stayed there once. It was mostly fine. It looked nothing like the Internet pictures, and the floor was just concrete. The bathroom was shockingly huge and nice for such a basic room. The room was definitely bare bones. It wasn't dirty or anything, but don't expect the pictures you see online. Fine for the price and location.

We didn’t stay there this trip, but I’ve stayed at the Hyatt Centric Times Square on 45th and 6th a few times. Rooms are nice, with some luxury amenities like heated tile floors in the bathroom, and it’s a block off Times Square so it doesn’t feel like you’re right in the middle, but a ton of theatres are under a 5 min walk.
You can get a room there for under $200, and they’ve got the highest rooftop bar in Manhattan, which has incredible views.

Ended ;up booking the Hotel St James for next week. I've stayed there before....nothing fancy, but it's clean and easy to get to....without those "resort fees". Less than 300 for two nights, including taxes and such.

Has anyone happened to have stayed at The Aliz Hotel on 8th and 40th? They have a few decent deals but I am still holding out for the Edison to come down. I don't need anything fancy just looking for a clean room and bed the first week in May.
Thanks. :)

Promo code LONGER gives you 20% off 3 or more nights at Edison.
The Hiltons and Marriotts are always solid choices.

Posted: 4/20/22 at 6:44pmI really try to book Room Mate Grace when I go to NYC. One thing I've noticed since returning post-shutdown, is that some of the hotels I stayed at previously, which were very good, aren't so good anymore. One example is the Hampton Inn Times Square North. I no longer recommend this hotel. Other hotels I've had good luck with are Hotel Belvedere, Hotel Riu New York, Hilton Garden Inn Times Square, Hotel Mela, and Radio City Apartments. I try to get $250 or under per night and mostly use Expedia and book with a flight.

3rd-ing HT also check Hopper if you sign up for the app you get 10 dollars off your first booking (not a lot I know but every little bit helps!) . I'd suggest sticking with the chains in Times Square and BEWARE of the 'resort' fee which depending on the hotel adds 30 to 50 bucks PER NIGHT to your room.

The resort fees are CRAZY. I very seldom stay in the city as I live about 50 mins away in CT but have family flying in and staying in the city. Ill check out Hopper and I might be daft but what is HT?:)

I'm a local, but whenever my wife and I are in the Theatre District for a show and a meal, we always dine AFTER the show. And we almost always go to a place called BXL Cafe on West 43rd, down the street from Times Square. It's a Belgian place, with a great selection of moules frites, and other Belgian dishes. Great crowd, and I've never had to wait for a table.

I've stayed at the Aliz twice and had a good experience. The rooms are nothing special, but comfortable. The brunch is very good, and there's a very nice bar on the top floor (even if it's a little upscale for my taste).

Thanks kdogg,
Reading some of the reviews it seems to be either hit or miss. I called the hotel direct to ask a couple of questions and they put me on hold and after about 5 minutes or so I was disconnected. This happened twice.
I have a couple more weeks so I am keeping my options open and hoping rates come down a little.

That makes me feel SO much better as that is where I’m staying with my mother and sister in June :). I usually stay more towards Grand Central (The Shelburne) or Central Park (The Warwick) but since my mother is now 2 years older at 84 - I decided staying somewhere more centrally located was better. We are seeing The Music Man, Company, and Mr. Saturday Night. This will be my mom’s 3rd time seeing Hugh Jackman on Broadway - she said she hoped she wouldn’t die before we could use our Music Man tickets…😂
