I love the opening of Chicago. The entire sequence from the shot of Roxie's eye through the end of "All That Jazz" is sublime. I love "We Both Reached for the Gun" as a puppet show, "Razzle Dazzle" as the circus, "Roxie" with the mirrors, "Mister Cellophane" (especially the shots from behind John Reilly as a silhoutte...beautiful) and "Hot Honey Rag". Another brilliant part is the cut from the final shot of "Roxie" with Renee smiling to the shot of Catherine with that look on her face.
Pretty much every number from West Side Story, but especially "The Dance at the Gym" and "America". The music combined with the dancing makes me just want to get up on a stage and dance along.
Singin' in the Rain is the best, though. I love "Fit as a Fiddle", "All I Do is Dream of You", "You Were Meant for Me", "Moses Supposes", "Good Morning", Gene Kelly's duet with Cyd Charisse in the green dress (actually, I love the entire Broadway Melody Ballet) and the title number, of course. I love the first scene between Gene and Debbie and Gene's molologue in the beginning. "Dignity, always dignity"
The American in Paris dream ballet
"Whose Got the Pain?" in Damn Yankees. Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon dancing together. It doesn't get better than that.
One of my favorite awesome cheesy musicals: Phantom of the Paradise.... when Beef gets electrocuted during the stage show and Phoenix is sent out to sing Old Souls.
Little Mermaid-Part of your world. The song, the beauty of Ariel's grotto, the sea effects...I used to watch this scene over and over.
Aladdin-easy answer, but A Whole New World...just beautiful animation.
Lion King-easy answer again, circle of life. Again, graphics, song, voice. Beautiful.
Little Shop-Dentist. Steve Martin at his best. Also the ending of "Skid Row" is just so powerful.
Chicago-All That Jazz, Cell Block Tango, the very end where Velma says "We couldn't have done it without you"
Phantom-The opening as the chandelier rises, the overture plays, and the opera house goes back in time. Brilliant. -the camera movement down to reveal the Phantom's layer and the very top of his head during "Think of Me" -the moment the first beats are hit of the title song, and most parts of that song, her walk through the gargoyles with Gerry sexily staring forward and at Emmy, the boat ride with the lights popping up -Music of the Night. Personal favorite for specific reasons that shouldn't be too hard to figure out. -Ditto Point of No Return. Minus the unnecessary dancers.
Rent-title song. Throwing of the fire seems irrational, but it's an awesome effect. -the moment where Roger goes to the meeting, probably partially because it was something I wasn't expecting. Chokes me up almost every time. -La Vie Boheme. Song is captured very, very well. And I kind of enjoy laughing at Adam's "dancing."
Agree with Roxanne in Moulin Rouge.
Wizard of Oz-IMO, best moment is when she opens the door to her brown house in Kansas to the beauty and color of Oz. Always my favorite.
Grease-John Travolta singing "Sandy" with dancing hot dogs in the background. Hehe.
King and I-the final scene between Anna and the king, and his death. So sad, but brilliant.
Sound of Music-easy answer, but when Julie comes on the screen in the mountains, turns and begins the title song. -also the shadows of Climb Ev'ry Mountain. Err, well, I just adore that song.
West Side Story-America. One of the few aspects of the show that was actually improved upon in the movie. The power of the girls and the guys, plus the new lyrics, Rita's dancing, the dresses, etc.
Mary Poppins--the entire human/animation sequence.
That's enough for now.
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli
"Love With All The Trimmings" from ON A CLEAR DAY... Not much happens, except Babs seducing that guy from across the table while she sings the song in voiceover. She looks/sounds incredible....probably has never looked more beautiful on screen, actually.
"The Aggie Song" from WHOREHOUSE. Great dancing, fun tune, and...well, shirtless guys.

No, not on the movie. I mean, it certainly is one of the best movie musicals out there, but IMO, it is much less than the show. Sure, I like the changes of Krupke and Cool and the adding in of the boys to America as I stated but otherwise...the orchestrations are terribly reconstructed, the dubbing is slightly annoying and the dubbers don't even reach the vocal strengths of the OBC performers, the ballet was cut, which it may not be the most important part of the show, it contains Bernsteins' finest transition I think from the utopian dream to the nightmare.

The opening and ending sequences to Bye Bye Birdie-

"Celebrating a birthday this week: Rene Descartes is 412! Do you know who he is? Then why are you watching this show? You could probably get into college and even get one of those job things. As for the rest of us; Amanda Bynes is 22! Yay!" -E!'s "The Soup"
The few moments just after Kathryn Grayson and Howard Keel sing Wunderbar in Kiss Me Kate. It's just... extremely sexy, I think. No matter how much they fight, that one moment cements the fact that Fred and Lilli are truly in love.
It's like writing "Norma Shearer for the win!" in a Joan Crawford biography.
Speaking of Kathryn Grayson, the high note she sings at the end of "After The Ball" in SHOW BOAT never fails to raise the hairs on the back of my neck.

American in Paris: I Got Rhythm, S'Wonderful
1776: But Mr. Adams, He Plays the Violin

"All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players:
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts..."

Bye Bye Birdie's opening and ending sequences with Ann-Margret. America from West Side Story. Theres Gotta Be Something Better Than This from Sweet Charity. Ann-Margret and Elvis Presley shaking up a storm in C'mon Everybody from Viva Las Vegas Olivia Newton-John crushing her cig and "kicking" Danny during Youre The One That I Want from Grease. Back To School Again from Grease 2. Michelle Pfeiffer putting her Pink Lady jacket on backwards and doing "the jerk" in Cool Rider from Grease 2. "[Babs] probably has never looked more beautiful on screen, actually".
While she did look amazing, I think she looked her best in "What's Up Doc?" when she's lying on top of the piano with her amazingly gorgeous, golden, straight hair. She is breathtaking there.
Annnnd I don't understand why "All That Jazz" is so amazing. I felt it was butchered with a lot of silly shots of a foot here, or a garter there. I would have preffered a better choreographic camera arrangement. Felt there were a lot of "cheap" cop-out shots.
More favorites: Barbra singing "My Man" at the end of Funny Girl.

* Chicago: I really love the treatment of "Roxie," especially how she's walking on the neon letters that spell her name. It's just visually stunning.
* Cabaret: I LOVE the choreography for "Mein Herr." I think it is up with "Hot Honey Rag" and "Whatever Lola Wants" as being my favorite Fosse choreography. Especially when Liza does a back bend over the chair at the end. Flawless.
* Moulin Rouge: Personally, I'm a wreck from the moment when Christian throws Satine on the stage and throws money at her feet. This is my favorite movie, and that whole "Come What May" reprise sequence is my favorite part of the film. "Roxanne" is spectacular as well.
* Seven Brides for Seven Brothers: the entire barn raising dance
* Funny Girl: Love "Don't Rain on My Parade," especially when the camera pans out and shows us the boat.
