2 Questins:
1) Why doesn't the cast of Rent (or any musical that doesn't for that matter) sing again during curtain call? I've always wondered...
2) In LB, what are they singing in the encore up to "So go home and be, go home and be, Legally Blonde...."? I recorded the MTV version with the lyrics so I could figure it out but my recording cut off too soon.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated :)
In spamalot the cast sings at the end and projects the lyrics on the stage of "Always Look on the Brightside" and invite the crowd to sing along.

when I went to hairspray they did a reprise of "good morning baltimore"
The Curtain Call lyrics for "Legally Blonde" are:
We've had our fun!
Our work here is done!
We're setting you free!
So go home and be
Yeah go home and be
Yeah go home and be
Yeah go home and be
LEGALLY BLONDE!!!
I wondered that too, It just depends on the show, I know in Zanna Don't and You're A Good Man Charlie Brown they sing during the bows. I heard the denver pre-broadway tryout audios for The Little Mermaid and during the bows the cast sings "Part Of Your World"
Although I didn't love the show I really loved the choreographed curtain call for Young Frankenstein. Anyone seen it who agrees? I think I enjoyed the curtain call more than the show lol
I think it's a newer phenomenon.
Since we're talking about it, here's the curtain call lyrics for YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN:
Together again 'til the next time
Though we're mighty glad that you came
Like Byron and Shelley
Like pickles and deli
Like ping pong and paddles
Maybe next year, Blazing Saddles!
'Til the next time, together again
Together forever again
Rent isn't the only show that doesn't have a sung curtain call. And in some cases, it'd be tacky, so it's better just to leave the curtain call simple.
Everyone sings, audience included, at the end of Color Purple, and Xanadu.

I really dislike the practice of singing during the curtain call. The curtain call is supposed to be the chance for the actors and the audience to acknowledge each other. They are not in charecter anymore. There is no reason for them to sing, and frankly it seems a bit tacky in most cases.
Agreed, RockabyeHamlet. I really only like the curtain calls when the show is hugely fun and it's more of a dance number, fitting in with the show, like with XANADU or HAIRSPRAY or the old ALL SHOOK UP.
If Susan Stroman paid as much attention to some of her shows as she does their curtain calls, she'd have created some much better pieces of theater.
I don't mind singing after curtain call, in fact I really love it if its appopriate for the show (like after The Rocky Horror Show's curtain call they sang "Time Warp"... wow, I saw that like 6 years ago... weird)
It's when actors come out and bow "in character" that annoys me, for the same reasons Rockabye pointed out.
lol adam, I always loved her "Oklahoma!" curtain call.

Stroman's YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN curtain call was amazing...I loved it!!! There's actually a video of it on that site...
I've always wondered why the cast of POTO doesn't break into a reprise of "Prima Donna" after they bow. Hell, why don't they just do the POTO Megamix!
Just saw it last week, but not sure, Doesn't the cast of Curtains sing during the final bow?
I loved the Color Purple final bow. I actually teared up.

As an audience, I love Megamixes. It's so much more fun for the audience than just actors bowing with no music.
TWSFan4Ever: Thank you! That has been bugging me forever!
And I do see how it could be tacky to do the singing in the Rent curtain call, especially after that huge finally. Okay. That's explanation enough for me.

Doesn't the cast of Curtains sing during the final bow?
Yes, they tell the audience not to tell what happens.
"But whatever you do
Don't reveal who killed who
Or it might just be Curtains for you"

In Seattle, the curtain call song in YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN went like this:
Together again 'til the next time
Though we're mighty glad that you came
Like Byron and Shelley
Like pickles and deli
Like Annie and Warbucks
Seattle and Starbucks!!!!
'Til the next time, together again
Together forever again

I my opinion, I don't mind if there is singing or not; just as long there is music playing. During the West Side Story cutrain call, nothing was happening. I woner why they played music AFTER the final curtain fell.

I've never heard the audience sing at the curtain call of The Color Purple.
I loved the Curtains Final Bows, wonderfully choreographed and the song at the end is cute.
Rmusic: it's referred to as "exit music". It just finishes up the evening.
I don't know if it started with The Producers or not, but that's the first time I had seen singing after/during the curtain call. I enjoyed it.
