The hyperbole in this thread for a trailer that consists of some pretty shots set to music astounds me.
How the hell can you tell from that that something is going to be AMAAAAAAAAAAZING or not?

Ryan Murphy mentioned this recently. I read Hugh Grant is being considered for Webber and Anne Hathaway is interested in playing LuPone and Charlize Theron for Glenn Close.

Michelle Williams looks great as Gwen Verdon. I still don't expect her to fully capture Verdon's dance essence, but who can?

Excited to see this!
I love the "Who's Got the Pain" bit. I hope we get the dance in its entirety. It makes me wonder because in the actual dance, when that movement happens Fosse is on the right and Verdon is on the left, however, in the trailer, it's reversed.
Regardless it looks like this has potential to be really great!

I hope the title is accurate and it's a balanced story of both Fosse and Verdon. I can see this easily being mostly about Fosse and Verdon's storylines only revolving around him and his needs, which to be fair is how it seems considering how much of her life she spent in ensuring his legacy was celebrated. After FX's Feud that was supposed to be the Bette Davis/Joan Crawford story but ended up being much more about Joan Crawford, I'm a little apprehensive. Of course, this is a totally different creative and production team, and as far as I know, there's no preexisting relationship between the creator and one of the leads here as there was with Ryan Murphy and Jessica Lange to show some favoritism towards.
The glimpse we see in the teaser of the "Who's Got the Pain?" number is from the original 1955 Broadway production which Gwen danced with Eddie Phillips. The Roman columns is the visual giveaway. The setting was different in the 1958 film adaptation, which Gwen danced with Bob.
NOTE: both dancers alternate positions throughout the dance so disregard Gwen and Eddie's positions in the photo below.

Aaaand, just like that, "Who's Got the Pain" is stuck in my head.
Here is the full official synopsis:
Spanning five decades, Fosse/Verdon explores the singular romantic and creative partnership between Bob Fosse (Sam Rockwell) and Gwen Verdon (Michelle Williams).
He is a visionary filmmaker and one of the theater’s most influential choreographers and directors. She is the greatest Broadway dancer of all time. Only Bob can create the groundbreaking musicals that allow Gwen to showcase her greatness. Only Gwen can realize the unique vision in Bob’s head. Together, they will change the face of American entertainment – at a perilous cost.
As Bob journeys from fledgling Broadway choreographer to lauded auteur of stage and screen, he fuels his manic creativity with drugs, alcohol, and sex, often abusing his celebrity and power to feed his appetites. Meanwhile, Gwen goes from a legendary triple threat, winning four Tony Awards in six years, to an actress struggling to stay relevant in an industry obsessed with youth and novelty and riven with double standards.
Through it all, Gwen plays an instrumental role in Bob’s work, not only as the greatest interpreter of his choreography, but as a largely unrecognized collaborator, even as their marriage unravels in the face of Bob’s increasingly self-destructive tendencies. Together, Bob and Gwen raise daughter Nicole (Chandler Head & Blake Baumgartner), who finds herself growing up in the long shadow of her parents’ illustrious careers, caught between her desperation for their approval and her determination to forge an identity of her own.
Bob and Gwen surround themselves with a tight-knit coterie of fellow artists, friends, collaborators, and rivals: the brilliantly acerbic playwright and screenwriter Paddy Chayefsky (Norbert Leo Butz); former modern dancer turned homemaker Joan Simon (Aya Cash); Joan’s husband, the comedic genius, playwright Neil Simon (Nate Corrdry); and legendary theater producer and director Hal Prince (Evan Handler). Eventually, as Bob and Gwen’s marriage reaches the breaking point, Bob will forge a connection with Ann Reinking (Margaret Qualley), an up-and-coming Broadway dancer who has all the talent and tenacity of a young Gwen Verdon. She hopes to follow in Gwen’s footsteps, but may not have the stomach to put up with everything Bob demands.
Featuring show-stopping choreography, including original pieces as well as some of the most iconic works of Bob and Gwen’s careers, Fosse/Verdon will tell the story of these two brilliant, complicated individuals – the love they shared, the art they created, and the price they paid in the pursuit of greatness.

Wow, did we know this was going to be angled around the Cabaret film?

The FX project also is a nod to Fosse’s loosely autobiographical movie All That Jazz, which he co-wrote and directed.
“We were tasked the telling the story of one who already had told the story of his life as he wanted it told,” Levenson said.
The FX’s project amends that movie to correct the record, reinserting Verdon into a storyline Fosse wrote her out of to a great degree, Levenson explained.
Nicole Fosse described All That Jazz as “a bit of a whitewashed romantic version of his life,” and a “nod to Fellini,” insisting her father never called it autobiographical.
Fosse/Verdon explores their not-necessarily healthy relationship, and the astonishing body of work they created together, and separately. When he died, Verdon took his ashes to scatter off an island where he was living with his girlfriend. Williams described Verdon as someone “always trying to rise above” and be her best at all times.
FOSSE/VERDON uses the filming of CABARET as it’s anchor but does show their relationship from its beginning in DAMN YANKEES, etc. She assisted him on the film version of SWEET CHARITY as well, so this is covered along with lots of other career points. CABARET is used as the present-day anchor as we see moments in their lives together.
FOSSE/VERDON isn’t just about the making of the film version of CABARET. Similar to how FEUD: BETTE & JOAN wasn’t just about the making of the film WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE?
