First Wives Club -- The Musical, based on the best-selling novel and Hollywood blockbuster of the same name, is coming to Broadway!
The new musical will be produced by Paul Lambert and Jonas Neilson and will feature a score by Eddie Holland, Lamont Dozier and Brian Holland, the threesome who created hits for Marvin Gaye, The Four Tops and The Supremes. The songwriters will compose original tunes for the musical, which will likely feature some of their hit tunes as well.
Francesca Zambello, the director of Disney's new stage production of The Little Mermaid, has signed to direct the new musical of The First Wives Club.
Zambello's directorial credits include the Bregenz Festival's production of West Side Story, the Metropolitan Opera's staging of Les Troyens and the Disney theme park version of Aladdin.
Rupert Holmes is set to pen the book for First Wives Club -- The Musical. Holmes most recently penned the book for the musical Curtains.

No! Really? You're kidding!
Did not care for the movie - can't see it as a musical either. The only reason the movie sold at all was the cast. It was full of one dimensional characters and unlikely situations - like the redecorating scene? Oh, pleazzze!
LOVE the movie! so excited!
Who is attached to direct this? Anyone?
This is no new news, but yeah, thanks for posting anyway?

Step off, ho!
I'm the FIRST WIVES CLUB representative here.
The article clearly states who is directing.

I liked the movie also and could see this as a great musical!
Holland Dozier Holland. The music should be interesting and I hope good. Grew up on their music with Motown.

Hopefully the producers saw Mermaid and will get a different director.

I love the film and think its perfect for a broadway show! Hope they get on to it asap!!
Bernadette has to star.
Have to say after seeing Frances' Showboat and recently Little Mermaid, i'm not blown away by her directing...
This sounds terrible. Another Broadway show that isn't so much a musical as it is an executive decision to make a musical.
^You saw it?
Look for FWC to make its Broadway bow early next year...
And to all the naysayers out there, from what I can gather from a friend who happens to be attached to the show, things are really coming together and when this hits it's going to be huge ... Take that for what it's worth.
bernie must play the keaton role.
patti must play the midler role.
sherie must play the hawn role.
that is all.
Um the Hawn role is now played by an African American (is that the PC term).
Actually the way they were describing her makes it sound like they turned Elise into Whitney Huston.

And Peters was tackled for the Bette Midler role (though she would have made a divine Elise had the role remained similar to the film).
Does ANYbody else miss musicals not based on movies? Yuck, I'm sick of this trend.

joanna gleason for annie!! (the diane keaton role)
she'd be perfection
It's not a trend.
Musicals, more often than not, are based off of some already existing material: books, dramas, poetry, autobiographies or even paintings!
It just so happens that movies are more widely recognized.
