Hello. When I was in NYC last May 2007, I arrived during the last day of Fleet Week. How much, if any, are Broadway grosses affected by the influx of uniformed personnel?? Would anyone care to share any stories or anecdotes of their reactions to particular Broadway shows? Inquiring minds want to know. from RC in Austin, Texas... (NYC Here I come: June 10-13)...

Posted: 5/22/08 at 10:18pmI know it keeps me out of the theatre district as much as possible. I find the majority of them wandering around worse than the average tourist. YUCK. I'll stay away until they're back on their ships.
LIVE THAT LESSON!!!!!!

I saw them roaming around the theatre district last night, and YUM!
I love 'em.

Posted: 5/23/08 at 12:25amI was there one year for fleet week and didn't notice a lot of sailors in the theaters. But they were everywhere when I left the the shows.

Yes, Letterman always has them in his audience. And always does something like the Sarah Jessica entrance, which worked out well and was a reference to the Sex...the City fleet week episode.
It seems the gay ones don't have to wear pink, just go into the bars from what I am told. I hear they wear their uniforms to the gay bars. I haven't seen any sailors in the bars in Hell's Kitchen but my friend says he sees a lot of sailors in the village bars during fleet week.

What makes you think they would be any different from any other tourist? Are they supposed to react differently to Avenue Q than someone who isn't in the armed services?
As for grosses, generally speaking, they don't create a large increase in attendance at Broadway shows.
