Footloose

Posted: 12/23/05 at 8:35pmHey guys, I just got the role of Jeter in Footloose. I'm a little disappointed considering I've had much better roles in years past AND I'm a senior AND Ren went ot a guy that can't sing... but looks like Kevin Bacon. Anyway, enough of my rant. Besides being Ren and Willard's backup singer along with Bickle and Garvin, what does Jeter do?

Posted: 12/23/05 at 8:41pmThat's pretty much it--he has a few lines and works pretty hard in the ensemble scenes, though. "Footloose" is a marvellous, high-energy show for ensemble. There's enough material for you to really make the role your own, if you work hard enough.

I was Bickle, so I can tell you--not much to do. You have some lines in the opening number, some lines in the gym, and you get to do "Mama Says" (which is a big crowd pleaser) and "Dancing is Not a Crime."
You have to love high school productions...where they change male characters into females because there aren't enough guys :)

Posted: 12/24/05 at 12:35amyou acctually stand in a shower. I played Willard last year and it was a blast. Jeter is a rather small role, but you should be on stage quite a bit. You'll be in "Mama Says" "Dancing Is Not A Crime", And most likely will be dancing for "Let's Hear it for the boy". I hope you enjoy the show as much as I did.

Posted: 12/24/05 at 2:49amJust closed this show a couple months ago. Great fun! I was Ethel (yes, I'm old :) ). Our Jeter was wonderful. He is quite an amazing dancer and gymnast, so during "I'm Free" he was backflipping and cartwheeling across the stage. Even without that, he made Jeter stand out. You will have so much fun doing this show and playing Jeter. And always remember, "Once you climb up a mountain...you can't back down."

I'm in Character Actor's play as well (I'm Willard) and I can say with confidence that our Ren will need some help with the singing (putting it lightly).
But from what you all say I'm really excited to get this show on the road. I love the music already and it sounds really fun.

That sucks, I hate it when untalented people get good parts.
Im in a play right now (The Happiest Millonaire) and all I do is put a vase on stage, and walk off. No speaking, just that but a kid who sounds like a mix of the Affleck Duck and Squiward from Spongebob is the boyfriend of the lead girl and has alot of lines.
no fair.

I'm sure you will be a great Jeter
I'm in a similar situation, my high school is doing Footloose this spring. I had my heart set out on Rusty but of course the chick who was the favorite got it even though its not in her vocal range. I can't complain though since its the 1st high school production I've been in and i haven't paid my dues yet. High school roles are based less on talent i find. My friend Katie who has been in theater since she was born got shafted w/ Vi instead of Ariel because there was a girl who "looked sexier" but cannot sing the part. Istead of being Rusty I'm like an "extra friend" Rayleen lol so i just follow Ariel around
This is my 1st post yay!

Wow... I've never even HEARD of Rayleen, but you'll be fabulous, no doubt! Well, have fun on your production, Diva, and when it's all done, we'll compare notes!
And thanks to EVERYONE who replied to my rant! You all rock!

Posted: 1/28/06 at 1:14pmSo apparently our Travis dropped out, and they call on me to take on the role. So, Now I am Jeter AND Travis. Which basically means, I am my own foil. The Gym scene is really funny. I exit as Travis, change around my clothes put on my glasses and enter the other way just before Jeter says "Amen!" It's great...

We had our Tech rehearsal yesterday. Also, it was the first time in full costume. I must say, having both those parts is quite taxing, but a lot of fun!
peace out.
