o man i had no idea about all that stuff. I saw it today and was wondering why you couldnt see her feet haha.
Glinda gets harnessed in the Bubble, but that is obvious because you see someone doing it.
When boq pulls the lions tale, there is a guy on the other side pulling as well. thats obvious
When the wizard is saying how wonderful he is all thru that there are people behind that big face that i guess pull it back. They just stood there it was random.
Based on what I have heard Eden and Kristin say about this scene. Idina is on a small platform. Eden said that there is not much room and, if I remember correctly, she almost fell off of it. She is connected by a strap thing to the back of it. I assume that Kristin is helping to set it all up when she puts the cape on. She joked about it on Chatterbox. And I clearly heard the snep of the harness thing when I was in the theater. Now I may be wrong but I think I remember Eden saying that she has to attach the harness herself right before the platform lifts. You can hear her talk about it on Chatterbox.

So is Boq lipsyncing the rest of the show when he is the tin man?
By the way, when Mary Martin flew on stage at the Winter Garden Theatre way back in 1954... her feet didn't disappear... and when Cathy Rigby last defyed gravity on Broadway at the same exact theatre: The George Gershwin Theatre in 1999... she didn't need a platform...
No, Boq isn't lipsinking the rest of the show. By the next scene it really is the character playing Boq why would he have to?
And Elphaba does strap the thing around her waist - You can see her do it. It's a wretched effect.
Did they have to belt a high F while doing so Cats?
No, swifty. The only part where there is any lipsynching with Boq is right after he's turned into the tinman. There is no time to have Chris Fitzgerald (or whoever's on as Boq that day) get into his tinman makeup, so a standin already in the makeup gets into the wheelchair, stands up, and mouths whatever Chris (who offstage or hidden onstage) says. After that, they put Chris into his tinman outfit, and it is really him onstage, singing, during March of the Witch Hunters.

I would assume then, that they were going for a different effect with Wicked. And I will say it was quite stunning. The lighting was killer and my jaw just dropped. I had gone in thinking that she was going to fly across the stage. But what they did was just fine with me.
BroadwayGirl107, in those days I'm sure Mary Martin would have hit a high F while balancing an elephant on a trapeze...
Cats, love your icon. Tony Vincet is one of my favs. He has a great voice. Ok, back to your originally scheduled program.
Should I word it a different way? Did they have to sing anything incredibly demanding while they were lifted? Did they have to sing at all? Because, you know, it's a tiny bit difficult to sing with a harness on your waist. The more demanding the song, they less likely it is that they are ABLE to create the flyign effect that way... Gosh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize your talent was limited to your air born circumstances. I've heard this argument before and quite frankly, I think Idina's a sissy. And before you ask me to do it, how about getting a life... Updated On: 12/30/04 at 10:07 PM
Wow, look who lacks the brain cells now Cats...I'm not even going to try explaining a harness to you, clearly your brain has reached maximum capacity, little boy.
mmmmm... I know all about them. I can hit a high F while in a harness and suspended on a wire. Anything else? Updated On: 12/30/04 at 10:11 PM
Oh, most certainly nothing else. You're completely rude, and you have the brain of a two year old, yet you still choose to be completely disrespectful to me without reason. I'm done with you. And grow up...it could only do you good. Updated On: 12/30/04 at 10:19 PM

idina - girl
you - boy
idina's a sissy? when you are flying high and singing on a bway stage - then you can call her a sissy
I have a question Cats...why is that in your profile?
you quote Elphaba in your signature. I can quote you in mine...

if you're so interested in Defying Gravity and her being lifted, it's cool when you watch the Tony's clip because she has this buckle thing around her neck when she's in the air. If you wanna see PM me, and I'll send you the clip although it was on the Tony's so I'm assuming most saw it before but maybe you didn't notice it.
ummm... the buckle is part of the costume design for the cape. it has nothing to do with her being lifted dumb a$s... becasue I mean, if that's what you think is actually holding her, if she falls... a buckle around her neck would come in so handy... it would strangle her... I wonder if she'd still be able to hit a high F being strangled mid air... Updated On: 12/30/04 at 10:46 PM

I was only saying it's cool seeing her up in the air and I noticed the buckle, did I ever say it was holding her up? Uhhhh, nope- did not. People seem interested in her "flying" so I'm asking if anyone want's to see it. Wow, some1 has no life on BWW =)
