I cannot believe Stew got a nomination over Cheyenne. Absurd.
And no Mary or Jackie.

The rules required that Grease be nominated. There were only 4 musical revivals and the committee is required to fill each category with a minimum number of nominees.
i agree with you all.....put a catered affair in the spot of crybaby for best musical. in the heights deserves to win this category. were the committee on drugs when they nominated crybaby for best musical?. i am rooting for in the heights.
I don't think I've ever used the word "squeed" but I squeed a little when I saw that Xanadu got more notice than Young Frankenstein and Little Mermaid.
I knew the featrured actress cateogry would have major snubs, but de'Adre Aziza over Mary Testa, Jackie Hoffman, Alli Mauzey, Karen Olivo, Leigh Ann Larkin, Harriet Harris, Leslie Kritzer, Mary Beth Peil? Crazy!
Other surpirses: Cry-Baby! Not much love for A Catered Affair! Top Girls only getting one nom (but for a personal favorite, Martha Plimpton!). Rock n' Roll did much better than I thought it would (both Rufus & Sinead got nominations). Grease was nominated. David Pittu but not Norbert Leo Butz. None of the men from August: Osage County. Arthur Laurents, not a surprise, I thought so.

Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre Stephen Sondheim

Even though Cry-Baby wasn't great, at least I wasn't bored out of my mind like I was at A Catered Affair. Since no one apparently wanted to throw Mel Brooks or Disney a bone, it's the right mainstream choice.

ATTENTION FANS: I will be played by James Barbour in the upcoming musical, "BroadwayWorld: The Musical."
Who wouldn't get choked up announcing Stephen Sondheim's lifetime achievement award?
Surprised Kevin Kline wasn't given a nod - was hoping for an interesting competition between him and Patrick Stewart.
REALLY happy for Kerry Butler, Raul, and all the Passing Strange nods... surprised by Cry-Baby, but almost happy because I enjoy the slap in the face to Mel Brooks.
This is Stew learning he was ACTUALLY nominated for Cheyenne:
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."
--Aristotle
Well, the saving grace is that Loretta Ables Sayre got a nod.
Thank God.

Will I lose my dignity Will someone care Will I wake tomorrow from This nightmare
And only ONE nod for Mauritius? No acting nods for The 39 Steps. Oh God.

No Francesca Zambini for LITTLE MERMAID??? HORRORS!
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”
