I don't even know if I wanna watch the broadcast this year.
Butters, go buy World of Warcraft, install it on your computer, and join the online sensation before we all murder you.

ATTENTION FANS: I will be played by James Barbour in the upcoming musical, "BroadwayWorld: The Musical."
<< Same goes for Olga Merediz. I love love love IN THE HEIGHTS but I didn't buy her being an old grandma for a minute.
YAY for Kerry Butler!!! >>
Agree !! So happy for Kerry, but think you might be in the minority with Merediz. Even people that dont like the show that much seem to think she is a standout.
"Same goes for Olga Merediz. I love love love IN THE HEIGHTS but I didn't buy her being an old grandma for a minute."
I agree. I enjoyed her performance, but she wasn't and didn't play old enough.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

After seeing and loving the often maligned and hysterical Cry-Baby last weekend I'm thrilled to see it nominated for best musical over the dreadful A Catered Affair.
I'm really pleased with the nominees... especially Mary McCormack, for Boeing-Boeing and Robin De Jesús, for In The Heights. Both are Scene Stealers. The only nomination missing is the brilliant Alli Mauzey from Cry-Baby.
YES for tons of Sondheim love (lifetime acheivement!) on the Tony's. Can't wait! :)
Patti will crush poor Jenna, which is sad, but they are both SO GOOOD. It's nearly impossible for me to chose one over the other, but I think Patti will win.
I was 100% suprised to see TLM got snubbed for set (I think Sunday will win that one, anyway!) But, Alan Menken got a nom. for score, I knew that would happen.
Best musical? I want to barf looking at the shows that got those nomination. I was expecting Cry Baby to be left out and YF & A Catered Affair to both get best musical noms, but noooo.
So glad Raúl Esparza got nominated. I would have murdered someone if he didn't. Hopefully he'll get his Tony now.
I'm really glad Christopher Fitzgerald got nominated! He carries Young Frankenstein.
"As we all should probably have learned by now, to be a Stephen Sondheim fan is to have one's heart broken at regular intervals" - Frank Rich
Dearest, how can this be so? You were dead, you know. - Candide
Oh my god, this show has everything! Half naked guys and girl on girl action! - [title of show]
(My avatar? Why, yes! That is Laura Benanti making out with a chick!)
I think this is going to be one of those years that the awards get scattered among the various shows (at least for musicals). For example, I could easily see In The Heights get Best Musical, Passing Strange get Best Score, Xanadu get Best Book and Cry Baby get best choreography.
Wow wow wow. I am honestly shocked with this list.
I know it has gotten bad reviews all around, but I should have just seen Cry-Baby to have my own opinion on it. Still shocked though.... overall, the best musical category was shot. I still thought Young Frankenstein was going to get a nod, I know that's stupid but I am shocked at that list. What a week list of Best Musical... YEAR OF THE REVIVALS :) Cry-baby had more nominations than Young Frankenstein... and that just baffles my mind, because YF has all the major stars. Without those TWO actor nominations, YF would be completely invisble with only one nom. Wow.
I'm surprised that Grease got the revival nomination. I wasn't sure what to expect, but yeah... there it is.
Congratulations to the FOUR wonderful stars from South Pacific to receive nomations. I'm biased, but I still wish Matt Morrison would have gotten a nomination. but wow, they covered the categories!! Paulo, Kelli, Loretta, Danny.. congrats!
Someone else mentioned it, but yeah... I'm not sure either how I feel about the broadcast this year. I just want to see the revivals and how everything pans out for them. SOUTH PACIFIC all the way haha.
I think Beane will win book as a holdover for The Little Dog Laughed in addition to people wanting to give Xanadu something. It's the most deserving possible award for the show. He actually did a lot with it.
I'm thrilled for the recognition for PASSING STRANGE which is the most original creative and BEST musical of 2008. That IN THE HEIGHTS got a nomination for Best Book is simply appalling. That is the most hackneyed, corney, predictable yet unbelievable and AWFUL BOOK of a musical in the last 10 years.
Few thoughts: -Yay, IN THE HEIGHTS. Congrats to Lin-Manuel, Olga, Robin, Quiara, Thomas (only director nominated for a new musical) and everyone else. -They REALLY hated A CATERED AFFAIR. I suspected they wouldn't get a nod, they hated LOVEMUSIK last year too and decided to nominate that bland thing called MARY POPPINS. -No Anika? You're kidding me?!!!! Whatever. -Sending hugs to Rosie Perez, Jennifer Garner and Marisa Tomei, all snubbed. -Don't really get the Andrea Martin nod, but good for her.
Please, someone explain to me how LITTLE MERMAID got a Best Score nod!
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
How many times can one person say they are shocked that Cry-Baby got nominated over A Catered Affair(5 times) A Catered Affair and Cry-Baby both got a lot of negative reviews, and as said before, for a commercial choice Cry-Baby was the better nominee.
Kind of shocked though that Mary Testa didn't get a nomination.

Reviews and the like
I just spoke to Mel Brooks and he told me flat out that he has made many enemies in the Broadway community. He fully expected not to get major nods for YF but was thrilled about the supporting noms for Andrea and Chris. He also said he wasn't that upset as his show is still selling tickets faster than even he expected. Last thing he told me is that he hopes Heights wins for best musical.
Mel is so gracious that I'm sure with everything going on this morning a) he took the time to talk to you personally, b) he was gracious enough to wish another show well (cause I doubt he can do anything today but yell about how great his show is and how wrong everyone has it), and c) was nice enough to lie to your face that tickets are selling well.
If the audience could do better, they'd be up here on stage and I'd be out there watching them. - Ethel Merman
